What the hell does RF2 have to do with the first Red Faction?!

This game is great and all, but what the hell does it have to do with the first Red Faction? On redfaction2.com, it says '5 years after the rebellion on Mars.' Big whoop. If the story took place in a different universe that Red Faction, I could understand. But why just have the story happen in the same universe, and nothing else? At least share a character from the first. Alias has the same colored armor as the miners and the soldiers look like mercs, but that is not enough. What do you all think!?

I dunno if it does have anything to do with the first; there may be a tie-in here or there (maybe you free Parker from a prison?) but basically, it's just built on the enhanced RF engine with a similar storyline. Sorta like Quake-Quake II.

Well, it's set in the same fictional universe (e.g. timeline wise RF2 = 5 years after RF) and we don't yet know if Parker or Eos or whoever will make an apperance, so how about we all just chill out and wait a bit?
