Red Faction Watch: ivan at the GDC

Boy, when they say Game Developers Conference they mean Game Developers Conference. Talk about a complete waste of time for someone like me. Anything worth being a part of takes palce in the ridiculously priced workshops and such and it's nearly impossible to find someone to talk to who won't give you a PR sell on their product and even then all the good people and stuff are behind closed doors and by appointment only. Oh well, live and learn. I didn't see any THQ or [V] presence (even if there were guys there roaming around it would be impossible to find them). I did see some Lithtech which was less than impressive; some Tribes 2, which was well, Tribes 2; a ton of misc stuff that seemed really gimmicky and lacking substance; a lot of various games and tech demos running off GeForce 3's (Giants looked especially impressive); and of course the usual graphical feast of "look how pretty my character is and how his clothes moves, of course you won't be able to play it like that though, you didn't think this could be in a real game did you? Hahaha... Idiot." Sonic Adventure 2 was on hand and was probably the highlight of the entire deal for me gaming-wise. And, what gaming show would be complete without the needless exploitation of women? There were some Second St. skanks dressed up like PlayBoy bunnies for the DigiScents booth, at least I think that's what it was... Who cares anyway? Even with the prostitute brigade they stilled managed to not impress. Wow what a company! Now you can even smell the crappiness of Deer Hunter! Basically, I stayed for little more than an hour, got bored, and split. I doubt I'll waste any more of my time returning for the next two days, but like I said, live and learn. I'm confident E3 will be much more entertaining and informative for an average Joe like me though. ![]()
