Freespace 2 -- too fast Help!!!

I recently upgraded my PC to an AMD 1800+ with a Geforce 3, and 1 Gig of DDR ram.

Freescape 2 has become completely unplayable. Missions that use to last half an hour are usually over in under a minute. I do not even get a chance to take part in the fighting.

I tried turning down the clock speed of the motherboard, and this improved things a lot. At least the game is barely playable --but still too fast. I also turned on 4x Anti-aliasing in Geforce 3.

I need to find a way to slow down my PC further. Any ideas.

The same exact thing happens to me when I play the old DOS Based Descents with my Pentium III 1GHz

What is your system? If it is win2000 or XP, you can try the following: create a small disk partition (~5 gigs would be enough)
and install Win98 on it. Since it is not taking more than 128 Megs of RAM in charge, that may work. Plus you can use this partition for your old games, that most likely won't fit with XP.

One more thing: do not play around too much in the bios, especially with your specs. Experience has it that those are still quite unstable systems, and this new chipsets generation are not friendly.

I've done that partition idea before.
However WinXP doesn't seem to like BootMagic at all.
I used MS-DOS 6.22 until I got my SB Live!
Now I need to install some kind of Win9x for it to work right.

And that still doesn't fix the turbo-Descent problem

Also check the computer manual for any jumpers that may need to be adjusted.
I cant you give a clear solution without seeing the machine myself.

I am using Windows XP Professional as the operating system.

I turned down the difficulty level to Very Easy and turned down the clock speed. After that I loaded Adobe Photoshop (and about 20 60Meg images), and ,made sure I was running lots of things like virus checking software etc. I also increased all my memory wait states to the maximum allowable in my bios (I think this actually decreased my crashes).

Looks like the combination of all the above has slowed down the computer enough that I can play Freespace 2.

Now I have to figure out how to slow down forsaken...I am not sure this two operating system thing will work, but I guess I will give it a try.

This doesn't seem like the SHIFT - , problem...
I have no iea what's wrong. Turn detail up or something. Run millions of other applications in the background. Tear RAM sticks out of your computer. Anything that will slow it down.
I'm sure there are utilities that will slow your computer for you...
