We posted this one a while back and I was just thinking about it yesterday if maybe it was just a rumor. It turned out it was completely true. Here's the press release I just got in my box from THQ:

THQ ADDS OUTRAGE ENTERTAINMENT TO ITS INTERNAL STUDIO ROSTER
New Studio, Cranky Pants Games, Also Announced
CALABASAS HILLS, Calif. – April 4, 2002 – THQ Inc. (NASDAQ NMS: THQI) today announced that it has added gaming veteran Outrage® Entertainment to its internal studio roster. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the team at Outrage Entertainment is best known for its PC gaming roots at Parallax Software, creators of Descent. The studio is currently developing an original action game for PlayStation® 2 and Xbox™ that THQ plans to unveil at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this May.
THQ also announced that it has opened a game development studio in Seattle, Washington which will focus on console development. The studio, Cranky Pants Gamesâ„¢, is currently working on a Nintendo GameCubeâ„¢ project scheduled for release in 2003.
