Unhappy some problems with FS2

alright, lets start with my stats so we're all clear
geforce 2 MX
p4 1.7 ghz
512mb
winXP home edition

alright, now, the problem (drom roll please )
whenever i go into FS2, the game is extremely dark, like my desktop when i dont raise gamma, its practically impossible to play the game so, what im wondering, is if there's a way to fix it, i think it might be possible to change the default gamma setting for my desktop (as it seems to use those when i go into FS2, the defaults are really dark, but, i adjust it to a reasonable level) so any help?

you can alter the gamma setting in the option of freespace 2 (top right) tbp is generally dark tough as we use trick shadowing to give a moody effect

Is it just during the missions that the game is dark or is it throughout the game (ie on the mission briefing and options screens too)? If it's just in mission then it could be that you've got the dynamic lighting on. Try going into OPTIONS, selecting the detail icon and turn your lighting DOWN (that's right, DOWN, not up). At it's lowest level, this setting turns off the dynamic lighting and all the ships appear brightly lit.

If it's not that, try posting a low-resolution screen shot, so we can see what it looks like on your screen. That may give us a clue what the problem could be.

Hope this helps.

Win xp has the bad habit of not aplying the desktop monitor settings for 3d gaming.
Theres something you can try. Go to the search utility and find dxdiag.exe file, run it and then click "MORE HELP" tab.
then click "OVERRIDE" tab at the bottom. imput the numeric value of you current desktop refresh frequency, if you monitor is digital (70% of them are) it should apply same color settings for 3D game same as you desktop. For 15' monitor this frequency might be 85hz, for 17' and up it could be 100HZ or 120HZ check out your dysplay properties for this.

Your problem should be solved now.
