Mike Kulas had this to say about the potential for releasing the source code to FreeSpace 2:

Regarding the potential release of the FreeSpace 2 source code, it's up to Interplay. I have recommended that it be done and asked that it be done. They are considering it. I hope to hear back in a few days. Since they approved the Descent source code release, I'm hopeful they will authorize it.

This could be good news to MOD groups out there wanting to make engine changes as well as potential for many other changes. This is an exciting development, stay tuned for further information.
