Summoner Watch: Interview with Snoop

Posted by Orange:

Nope, not Snoopy, but Snoop, a.k.a. Anoop Shekar, Producer on Summoner 2. Anyway, he's now appearantly British since he says stuff like "dare I say" and whatnot in the interview. Okay, I've made enough fun of the interview already because it was actually a really good and well done interview. I recommend that everyone reads the entire thing since I assume you're interested in Summoner 2 if you're reading this. You can take a look at it over yonder. The interview isn't the usual "be nice to the interviewee and hope for a free game" style interview that we give here at Volition Watch. Rather, it goes down on some of the pressing issues and so it's interesting to read. Here's what I mean, check out this quote from the interview:

Q: The original Summoner wasn't well received by critics. How have you addressed these issues, and what do you have to say to the haters?

A: We spent a lot of time reading the reviews, and some criticism we agreed with, some not. But we've addressed most issues. A big problem people complained about was draw distance, that polygons would just pop out of nowhere. That's gone now. And for those who thought combat was a little boring, the new, action-oriented battle system, where you swing swords, block, etc. on command should rekindle interest. Levels are also less confusing, easier to navigate, and an auto-map system tones down aggravation too. New, more colorful characters are also included, and each has a different personality, making them more fun to control. We looked at almost every aspect at the game, and changed it, while trying to keep the core of what made Summoner fun.

So, yeah! I think Anoop gave good responses to some hard questions. I suppose facing the problems in Summoner 1 is the best way to make it even better in Summoner 2, though. Yep, so since I know you really want to now, go read the interview.
