Message to Bester!!!!

How does one view your Omega Destroyer video. Everytime I try to download part one to look at it it says it can't find some .drv 00 file or something. Can't remember, message was to long to memorize.

It's in 5 parts, and I believe you need WinRAR to reform the parts into one file. run the .exe with the rest of the files all in the same directory and it should work.
I'll let you know for sure once I get it, forgot to download part 5, forgot about it, remembered about 3 minutes ago

I also had a probelm getting the first file. It would start to download, get about 180 Kb of it and then stop. I kept trying and eventually it got all the way through. For some reason file 1 downloaded very slowly compaired to the others.
For this to work you don't need WinRAR, just all the files. It is a self-extracting file spanned into 5 parts. All parts need to be present for it to extract.
Keep trying Msmith45, it should work eventually. The same goes for those TBP patches. I have yet to get them too as the server must be very busy.

OK, you don't need winrar, as stated above. Just get all the parts and run the EXE. Poof.
Oh yeah, very nice...it's pretty!

Well I found half the problem.
Every time I tried to load up the .exe file it told me that it could not find the .r00 file and every one there after. It seems that somehow my downloads came with a double extension at the end of them.
example: omega_destroyer(divx).r00..r00
See what I mean. Now I have been able to get the file to download into a media file but now all I get is sound and no picture.
Does any body know what the hell is going on??

You probably (almost certainly) don't have the DivX codec installed. Bester - did you encode using 3.11a or 4.0?
Anyway, you'll have to find the DivX codecs, download and install them.
My advice is get DivX 3.11, install it.
Then get DivX 4.0, install that. It'll ask "Do you want to use DivX 4 to play all DivX 3 files?" ... answer no.
If you do that, you should be able to watch 99% of all DivX encoded movies with no trouble.

Actually Alphakiller...

Version 4 has been improved quite a lot in last few updates, I see no reason to have both versions installed.

All divx movies are running flawlessly, using version 4.

with the sake of not trying totally stupid, I don't have a clue what you are talking about or how to do what it is you are implying??
How come it is working for everyone else. I have problems in the past with only getting voice files when downloading. What is the reason for this.
Does it have anything to do with the file having an .avi extension at the end of it??

Posted by CptWhite on 01-27-2002 10:51 AM:

codec = compression instruction set...your windows media player is currently trying to unzip a zip file without a zip extracting program, for want of a better expression.

so you need to install the divx codec http://www.dovx.com .... no?

again this should really be in the same topic, if you keep spamming topics for no great reason i might close some down in the future...and you wouldnt want that...cos then yuo get NO answers!

White, calm down. He's a newbie here.

As I said in the Bester's topic:

Go to warp2search.com --> Downloads --> Search for "Divx" and the first one should be " DivX Bundle 4.12", download and install the package.

And White, it's divx.com

MrFury: uh...I have DivX 3 content that wouldn't play with the DivX4 codecs, so I figure better safe than sorry...

You are right Mr.Fury. You cant get anywhere with losing your temper.

Just download that divx codec v. 4.12 from:
divx.com

And you get divx codec and a nice thing called as Playa.

and what do I do with it once it is downloaded?
Is it an upgrade for media player or something completely different??

Posted by msmith45 on 01-27-2002 08:38 PM:

Yes it is a completely different viewer.
Now I have about a half dozen of them.
But it was a very good video, well done.
are there any other short clips like this listed in one location??

Posted by Alphakiller on 01-27-2002 08:42 PM:

A codec lets programs like Windows Media Player or Sasami read that particular file format - in this case, DivX.

Post

DivX is a compression format for avi movies. To run a movie compressed with DivX the end user (ie you) needs the DivX codec.

After you've installed the codec windows media player will be able to run/play the movie. That's about as simply as it can be explanied.

More than Windows Media Player. Windows keeps all of the Codecs installed in a list so that any number of compatible programs can use that codec.
