Pilotable Nova or Hyperion anyone
I mad a Nova and Hyperion useable by the player. Both have EA Plasma Cannon 1s as their primaries, and all turrets work as they should. There is one problem though you cannot use the normal cockpit view in combat because when any powerful shot strikes the hull the game crashes. Anyway I wouldn't imagine someone piloting a nova from a cockpit. Now who wants some.
Where do you pilot them from then?

I think it would be from behind view
That crash is caused by the damage display, that shows the damage caused to your subsystems. The thing is, that the Nova has too damn many turrets to fit in that list, so it crashes.
There's nothing you can do about this, except removing some turrets.
Make a Sharlin flyable- they never take enough damage for that to be a problem.

send it to me as well. I'd like to give it a try. ranger1_ams@hotmail.com Where do you pilot form then? External view? I think you can disable the damage indicator to fix the crash prob.

Oh well why not? Please send me one too if you can: epw111@psu.edu
I don't think the Sharlin would be a very fun pilotable ship, considering that it has no controllable weapons...
There is a way pera. Someone ont he VBB some time ago made the Hacate player flyable and I used it. They damage incidator was missing as well when I used it.

I think some more time SHOULD be spent on flyable capitol ships. that is where the real strategy is. Being the captain of those big monsters. Has anybody in here played Klingon Academy. Man I love how I can watch my ships different systems as they lose or gain back life. Or the shield status around the display of my ship, while my helmsman is yelling in the background: "Aft sheilds hit, down to 20%!!", or being in the middle of a battle and hearing "Primary weapons offline" after just taking a severe hit. while the whole time you are using a digital (keypad) interface to give commands to your bridge crew. I especially love being able to go to the different stations and change all the complex settings and macros to suit how I want the ship to run. Increase sensors to 200%, Overcharge primary weapons to 150%. I spent most of my beginning years in computers with space born fighter type flight sims, Wing commander's 3, 4 & prophecy. While I did have a lot of fun as I grew older it got a little boring just flying and shooting. I wanted the strategy of command. Controlling your ships functions to survive and return for another attack. that's what commanding a capitol ship is all about. Right now the closest it comes to until Star Trek: Bridge Commander comes is Klingon Academy. IF you want to get back down to earth, Sub Command is about as realist as you can get and it operates on a 3dimensional plain as well because of the underwater aspects. but it is a very realistic and hard one to play. The PDF maual on the CD is 308 pages long and some very intense reading. But hey that's what controling one of the big boys is all about.
What is your opinion.
FS2 is NOT a capital-ship combat simulator. The code is different, the engine is different, and it just does NOT work that way.
It was designed and coded to let you fly fighters, and nothing else - because the game was about flying fighters, and nothing else.

Could something like Klingon Academy be converted over for larger ship combat for B5 possibly. You could change the individual stations, command codes, etc..
Before amyone thinks I'm pushing more on someone than can be handled I am only wondering how feasable it is if somebody had the desire to want to try it. I do not expect anybody to jump out of TBP to act on this whim, I'm just wondering if it is feasable?
to put it simply, if you're so keen on flying big fat dirt traps that go down from one bomber wing in one pass, then go convert it yourself with your own team, FS2 is not for capital ships.
