Why is the omega

one of the most favoured ships in b5 it is also my fav but the reason i'm asking is cos i've been watch seasons 3 &4 agian and noticed in every dramatic battle when an omega goes they slow the scene down and turn down the SFX and put that sad music on, i aint complaining just curious cos the never do that with other ships. Take severed dreams and Endgame for example in SD churchill rams hostile omega very emotional, Endgame Agamemnon trys to ram God agian very emotional, they never doe this with say a whitestar.

Whitestar is to small to ram an enemy ship...

No it is not, I don't remember what is name of the episode where WS hit directly to Omega's hangar section (because Omega blasted WS from it's course by it's main guns), resulting destruction of that Omega. There was no visible damage on that Omega IIRC.

Thats No Surrender, No Retreat and the ship had taken damage in a previous scene....and during that particular scene where the WhiteStar looses control and rams into the Omega, two WhiteStars had just finnished pummeling the forward seconds with repeated pulses and beams. The shot shows the Omega with heavy structural damage before the WhiteStar rams into it.

The reason with the Omega's and sad music....basically we've got two scenes (not every single time) where this happens.

The first one is in Severed Dreams. The sad and dramatic music is there because its portraying the emotion of the even. Not only is Earth fighting against itself in a Civil War, but a heavily damaged warship has been left with no other choice then to ram former comrades so that the good guys can win.

With the Agamemnon, a main character is aboard this ship, its the last defense platform, and its about to fire on Earth. The dramatic and emotional music is there to once again, enhance the emotion of the event. A badly damaged warship with hundreds onboard is about to ram a defense platform that is about to fire on the planet that its supposed to be defending.

In both cases, the music is fitting and neccessary.

The reason why this isn't done with the WhiteStar (they do it sometimes, but less often) is because of the size of the event. When the particular WhiteStar rams the Omega in NSNR, its not one that has anyone onboard that we know, its part of a larger battle with all kinds of things happening. So its not really going to get a protracted scene with music.

But we've seen dramatic music with Ivanova's WhiteStar when it gets hit with a piece of debris at the conclusion of the fight with the Omega-X's.

The longest scene with sad music when a ship rams something is in ACTA, when the Victory, goes and rams the deathcloud. THis music was slightly different however, portraying Capt. Anderson and crew as heros, with honourable music playing.

Saw that one. It got hit by once by a forward beam cannon on the Omega destroyer and it was out of control. Then it got hit again but that did not stop it from flying stright into the hangar bay. Took out the Omega destroyer there. I think it was the EAS Pollux.

yeah, the omega was alrdy damages

and the whitestar captain probably said "OHHHH SHIITTTTT!" instead of "give me twirling ramming speed!"

No no no.........most probably the captain said "In Valin's name..." and sat back sipping tea while watching the Omega spinning........

I personally prefer screaming "give me twirling ramming speed" at the top of my lungs.

From loosing control to hitting the Omega I don't think anyone had time to even say S**t
