I think that it's fairly obvious that as part of the grounding, Edwin's internet privalidges have been revoked by his parents. This is not so hard to do if the computer is not in his room, or if it is the phone line can just be disconnected from his room.

Doesn't mean that this banning of internet use is very nice though
