Is it possible.....

Is there any way you can install your mod and still have access to the original freespace 2 ships in FRED 2?

I have a pretty cool crossover campaign planned, and it would be extremely happy if it could be done.

The very basics of the plot is that the humans and the minbari were quite happily beating the snot out of each other, when all of a sudden, the shivans decide they will rudely interrupt a major battle by disintegrating a few Sharlins, then turning around and fragging the EA forces.

Yes, basically it would be similar to the Terran-Vasudan war, but a fair bit more psychotic.

Unhappy

That was nice idea but.
In theory you could do that. With Derelich camp(or was it Warzone) comes MOD disabler which allows to use orginal ships and their tables. This works well in FRED2.

But in reality thats impossible you see that you'll have MOD on when you play TBP. But in other hand you are able to add FS2 ships in MOD just copy their data from FS2 tables and paste them in TBP tables all weapons and ships. So you can use them. But remember that FRED2 can have max. 75-135 ships in use (am I correct?).

So its little hard to do, but it can be done.

There is no such thing as a ship limit.

Only the ship.tbl file can't be over 300kt in size, or it doesn't work.
So if you remove ship descriptions and other crap, you can place much more ships there.

Actually not. These universe crossover things have NEVER been a good idea.

This forum is very good at coming up with ideas that suck.

Its more the fighters that would be trouble. A single Serapis could outmanuver and destroy a whole squadron of StarFuries.

Hey, if somebody wants to try a project like this, let them. If the end result sucks then so be it but who are we to pre-judge someone's hard work?

I'm with Triggy - give it a shot.

However, Skullar has a point. Precedence for these type of crossover campaigns says they tend to be pretty bad.

Still, if you want to, go for it. I wouldn't want to be a T-bolt pilot going after a Dragon, though...

I understand I'd have to do some serious balancing to make it work, but all that can be done by tweaking power levels. Thanks for your help, though, even the negative feedback.

All you have to do is give the EA weapons some damage against shields. It's just like fighting thirdspace squids

They do have some damage vs shields....I left that in for a number of reasons, but its not the same effectiveness that FS2 weapons enjoy.
