About the Marines in Babylon 5
Do you think the Marines of the EA would have there own fightersquadrons? like the American Marines have today?

I'm not sure. Garibaldi can fly a Starfury and he was a gropo.
I don't think that would be something they would teach you
as a chief of security.
hmm, i dunno
zack could fly star-fury too so maybe

WEBSITE NOW UP AND RUNNING!!!!!
No, they have their breaching pods.
This is enough, for the space superority (stupid spelling)
is the rest of the Earthforce there.
For space, fighter support would prolly be given by the navy.
In an atmosphere, they would prolly have their own air support. One of the reasons (if I've learned correctly) that US Marines have their own air groups is that because, when a navy or air force pilot is supporting them, they're supporting Marines. When a Marine pilot is doing it, they're supporting their buddies. Marine pilots go through the same training (or at least some of it) that regular marine grunts go through, so the pilots have an understanding of what the grunts will need.
It also means that the Marines have dedicated air support that can be called directly, instead of going through the other services channels.
But I ain't a Marine, so I don't know fully if that's how it goes. From my understanding form TV and books, that's one of the reasons.

Something like Space: Above and Beyond? all marines in that show double as space pilots.

To be completely honest B5 wasn't exactly the most realistic portrayal of military accuracy for certain subjects. A lot of that can be seen in how they handled fighters, practically everyone but the damn doctor knew how to fly Furies or could be taught to fly T-Bolts. In B5 pretty much everyone started out in fighters then moved up, it was ridiculous that people like Garibaldi and Zack could fly Furies, they aren't even officers only enlistedmen, enlisted personnel don't fly anything but can be part of flight crews in most branches of the US military, only the Army has pilots who aren't officers called Warrant Officers (my dad is one) and though Garibaldi was Chief Warrant Officer his duties have absolutely nothing to do with fighters, then again neither does Sheridan or Ivanova for that matter.
Pilots in the Navy usually move on to avaition oriented positions such as becoming a CAG (Commander Air Group) and as I understand it because of the duties aboard an Aircraft Carrier and the experience learned being a pilot often Carrier captains were pilots. But Sheridan who was in a Cruiser or Lochley in a Destroyer have no business knowing how to fly fighters (realistically). Only Sinclair could be believable as a fighter pilot because that was what he was introduced as, a wing commander during the EA-Minbari War. Then maybe he transferred out of active flight status after the Line.
I think it'd be great if there were Marine fighter pilots in B5 (I want to be a Marine pilot myself) but I doubt B5 has them, then again the workings of Earth Force aren't exactly clear, Naval personnel are promoted from Captain to General instead of Admiral, that's really wrong. But being a tv show I leave it to artistic license and suspension of disbelief as an excuse.

When it comes to the EA, the starfury is a lot more than a space fighter, its also a rescue ship, scout ship, and other stuff
And living on Babylon 5, you HAVE to be able to handle a fighter, its the primary defence. So they give basic training to all officers.
The role of a starfury isnt like that of an F/A-18 now-a-days
thats why B5 depiction is pretty accurate.

It would make sense that the command staff of Babylon 5 be trained as fighter pilots. As they are all stuck in space. If something happend they may need all hands to fight.

It was mentioned that it makes sense for a carrier pilot to be able to fly a starfury.. well just about every EA warship is actually a carrier. That could explain some things.

I love WC. Chris Roberts rocks. The movie was awsome too, despite Freddie Prince Jr. Anyone else looking forward to freelancer?
The WC movie is ok, but with all the changes they made from the game, it could have been a completely different story. They already had a whole fleet of ships, a good history, aliens, but they go and create a totally new everything instead of using the one that was proven to work.

I thought the movie had a number of merits, overall it was a good fun story, it was a war story, and it drew alot from the spirit of World War 2 combat. Which was kind of neat to have a retro future setup like that.
