I'm live in ALASKA. I never need to see those damn things again. They're only out when its cold and your girlfriend/wife ALWAYS has to go out and see them.

"Ooh it's the Aurora!"

"C'mon honey you HAVE to see the Aurora!"

"When are we gonna go look at the Aurora?"

"Never. Because it -60 ****ing degrees outside!!!"

Grrrrrrr...

So TRY to keep it on topic. (Says the guy shamelessly plugging his website)

Aurora Borealis.....very nifty. Great shot too.

We had some of those for the first time around here. It was bloody spectacular. They covered the entire sky....but the really cool thing was that there was a central "node" if you will at 90 degrees up. All of the lines shot out from there...or appeared too.

I guess some magnetic field lines crossed there. No idea. Very cool tho.

The teacher i had for bio when i was a freshmen has a bunch of pics

from

http://www.sec.noaa.gov/advisories/outlooks.html

quote:
**** SPACE WEATHER OUTLOOK ****

Summary For October 29-November 4 Space weather reached category 4 (severe) levels on the NOAA Space Weather Scales due to a solar radiation storm on November 4. A large and magnetically complex sunspot group, referred to as Region 9684 by NOAA space weather forecasters, produced a major flare on November 4 at 4:20 p.m. MST (2001 November 4 1620 UT). This resulted in radio blackouts reaching category R3 (strong) levels and solar radiation reaching category S4 (severe) levels on November 4. Earlier in the summary period, from October 29 - November 3, isolated category R1 (minor) radio blackouts occurred due to moderate-sized solar flares. On November 1 a category G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm occurred as a weak CME (coronal mass ejection) passed earth. For a list of adverse system effects related to space weather storms, please refer to the NOAA Space Weather Scales.

Outlook For November 7-13 Space weather is expected to range from minor to moderate levels. Category R1 (minor) to R2 (moderate) radio blackouts are possible during the period. There will be a continuing category S2 (moderate) solar radiation storm on November 7 which should subside to a category S1 (minor) storm and end by November 8 or November 9. A category G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm is possible on November 7 due to the effects of a CME passing earth on November 6.
