Question Questions about Mars after the Earth Civil War.

Mars is Independent after that war, but did they step out of the Earth Alliance completely? Does mars have a own seat in the ISA? has it a military of its own now, with cruisers and stuff? or are they independent from the EA, but share things like military with them?

I don't think they left the Earth Alliance completely.

I'm no political expert, but here's how I think it is.

Mars is like a state in the EA. Before the EACW, it was a colony, and run by a government appointed or controlled mainly by Earthers. Best example from our history is the American colonies before the Revolutionary War. The English government would appoint people who were more likely to support them too places of power, trying to keep better control of the colonies. When Mars was made independent, I think it was an independence from the Earth control, and not the EA. So they became a more independent form of a state than a totally new nation. If they were a whole new and independent government, they would have to build their own military and everything else needed to run and protect a Mars government. But, staying with the EA would mean Earthforce would still be responsible for Mar's protection.

If that made sense, please say so, cause I'm just starting to confuse myself again.

i would disagree - scotland now has its own government but we are still part of great britain adn still have teh same military - i would think thats more the type of arangement than just a state of teh earth alliance

Mars is independent from earth rule but is still part of Earth alliance as a member...Sort've like how earth, minbari are part of ISA but still rule their own people...

The problem is that even though Mars is an Independent state, it is still partially controlled by various Earth-based corporations.

No necessarily.... The UN doesn't control much of the
internal policies of its members, infact, not at all.

It's not like the Federal government of the States that
has control over the states.... More like NATO, where
attack on one nation is the attack on all others.

So... there, MAR is independent, and you can bet it will
have a bit of military on its own, but not strong enough
to face an all out offensive. Therefore it needs the
protection of EA and through EA brings the protection of
ISA.
