dunno if you'd die touching the armor. Supposedly it was a watered-down version of normal Shadow bio-armor. Maybe if you touched it it would put you in a coma, lol. About the Auroras and Thunderbolts, they looked normal to me. My question is did the Thunderbolts have more powerful weapons? In a few scenes there a Whitestar was hit by a Thunderbolts cannon and it did quite a bit of damage. Either it hit a weakspot or those Thunderbolts had an upgraded "gatling gun."

Posted by IceFire on 11-02-2001 11:07 PM:

The Thunderbolts cannon is powerful right off the bat. In one scene you can briefly see a T-Bolt blasting a Vorlon fighter to kingdomcome. So its not a Nial, but its pretty good.

In the Big battle outside of B5, we saw three thunderbolts destroy a hyperion in one pass

Um, that Hyp must've taken some serious damage before, because there's no way three T-bolts can take out a cruiser in a single pass. Three Nials couldn't take out a Hyperion in a single pass...

Three Vorlon Fighters could do it in half a pass!!

The only thing I think that Battlecrab armour is capable of doing is absorbing a bit of the energy from alien weapons, and being able to regenerate, instead of normal armour taking loads of damage.

ok, 3 Thunderbolts destroy a Hyperion in....."Severed Dreams"? I look and look but I can't find it, where exactly in the battle is it?

Posted by IceFire on 11-03-2001 12:32 AM:

I don't remember that.

Earlier in the episode, several T-Bolts are seen firing pulses which do heavy damage to the Clarkstown forward interceptors (as was reported to Major Ryan).

In that first scene with the Alexander making a run for it, the Plasma blasts go streaking past. At the very beginning, a stream of pulses hits the Clarkstown. A couple of scene changes later and it happens again.

Thats what fighters are there for. To take out weapon systems and give friendly capital ships the chance to punch through.

You'll see this philosophy developed in Release 2.

Sweeet
The Omegax's bio armour is only low level shadow tech grown over existing armour whereas a battlecrab is a ship that is grown not made and how would you touch the omegax outer hull anway since its in space and you have to touch it with bare hands...

I can't post it, but if you have the last episode of the Shadow War (the Battle of Coriana 6) it's in there. There is a view from a Starfury cockpit that collides with one of it's own, then the next scene 2 Thunderbolts are flying away from the camera pursued by 2 Vorlon fighers. One or both of the Thunderbolts whips around and blows up a pursuing Vorlon fighter. The scene then shifts to 2 Nial's firing, then the Thunderbolts again. If you have that episode on tape check it out, but look fast 'cause it doesn't last very long.

Posted by Ghost Rider on 11-03-2001 08:17 AM:

I'll have to recheck "Into the Fire" for that T-Bolt destroying the Vorlon Lightning fighter, I've never seen that. If that is the case you wouldn't need a Nial for anything, if it can waste a Lightning a T-bolt can paste a Nial easily.

As for the 3 T-Bolts engaging and destroying a Hyperion I have seen that but not in an episode. As you probably know many modelers in Lightwave and similar programs make cgi mini-movies with their models. There is a recreation of the entire "Severed Dreams" battle in one such mini-movie created by Zoltan Pentelencik. You download it in five parts and install them one at a time then when you are done you run the movie and each part is played after the other automatically. The mini-movie was recreated in the form of "Director's Cut" filling in the gaps of the episode's battle including what happened to the two Hyperions that jumped in with the "EAS Agrippa" and "EAS Roanoke". During the battle, the first Hyperion is fired upon 3 T-Bolts who destory it in a pass. But the author stated clearly that the extra events in the mini-movie are his interpretation of what may have happened, not officially what did happen. So it should not be taken literal that 3 T-Bolts can take out a Hyperion in a pass, the amount of workload it takes to have those 3 T-Bolts moving frame by frame is enough to not want to extend the scene by having 20 T-Bolts engaging the ship in numerous passes that's why there were only 3. If anyone is interested in getting the movie this is the address from the read me file:

http://welcome.to/b5animations

I have no idea if it works, but if it does and you don't mind spending a while downloading those very large movies go ahead, they're really worth it.

I'm willing to bet that the Hyperion was already damaged.

Nials are still faster, tougher, and carry around more firepower than Thunderbolts, but its been shown time and again that the Earth Alliance has probably made the most technological leaps of any species.

The Aurora was more manuverable than most fighters, and it did not too badly against the Nial in that it could keep up with manuvers, just not match the firepower and speed. The Thunderbolt is still not as fast or as manuverable as the Nial (or venturing a guess the Sentri) but its alot better firepower wise.

Ok, I can understand that a T-bolt would destroy a Vorlon Fighter meaning that its firepower is significantly stronger than starfury... but vs a nial, a T-bolt would never be able to get a direct hit... (unless ALpha 1 is the plot )

So just maybe a T-bolt's weapons are stronger than the nial, but the nial is still faster, more manouverable and has stealth

Their stealth systems don't work as well anymore then in the Earth-Minbari war. The EA has better sensor systems now.
