In a few days...

In a few days I will release an addon to the mod. It will contain the following ships I have converted from the various homeworld b5 mods.

I been saying that individuals that want to post their own mods(B5) should be able to do it . Not all the mods should come in giant packs! I myself down load the giant pack and pick out what I want and toss aside the rest.I say bravo my friend.Carry on the good fight!

both Kazan and whitestar55 are right. Sure the textures aren't as good as the ones from TBP or Freespace 2 for that matter. Seriously though, these will be ideal gap fillers until these ships are released by TBP team.

to be honest this can only cause a headache for the team, and it will be considered official by people not in the know, we can stop you doing this so i ask this of you, keep it restricted to forum members only

when we release the next pack it should hopefully not have any problems.

if there is i will be furious !

i doubt in this amount of time that the ships will be setup correctly (tbl and model wise) i suspect you compiled with cob2pof, which is basically no good.

basically from the shots dont expect the ships to look good or behave that well in freespace 2

basically im a mix of opinions on this

As the leader of the conversion team, I've got no problem with you publishing these. If you want to give people something to play while waiting for our stuff, sure, has my blessing. We've got no legal ability to tell you not to do this.

But you must understand that we won't support this publicly at all. We willl not take any responsibility on the stabilitily of these models and problems they might create on some system. Neither we will not answer any questions asked from us related to these. Make sure that this is written in the readme and that people will understand this. This should be obvious of course and that's what you're probably planning to do. I'm just making sure.

Couldn't you split your downloads page in two? One with
your official TBP downloads and another with a huge
disclaimer saying something like: these mods have been
created by the B5 community, they have nothing to do with
TBP. Any problems caused by using them are your own
responsibility, we advise you wait for our next release
but if you can't wait you can use these at your own risk.

That way you might keep both sides happy. I would like
to try out other peoples B5 mods but I know as soon as
you have your next release they will be getting dumped
in favour of it (unless they are absolutely superb of course).
Well it's just an idea, please don't flame me for it.

Well.

The TBP team ( if you think we are working to slow , then don't stay aligned to the fan community , JOIN us ! ) will make releases. These releases will base upon earlier releases.

Personally I think it's OK if you mod TBP on your own , but always keep in mind that WE are cooking our own soup. The official files will work, if our official files disagree with fan-stuff than we won't pay attention to this.

However , we ARE ALL fans of TBP. The TBP team tries to make no compromises in quality. Well, you all had to wait long for our first release , but I think you appreciate what we have done.

If you lack the patience to wait for official stuff then make fan-addons , but keep in mind that sooner or later they will be replaced by official ships. So , if you don't want your work be in vain ( just to buy some time ) better make high ( and persisting ) quality stuff and work WITH us

As many have pointed out these models are not going to be of the quality of TBP, because they are not meant to be. I converted them because I wanted to play with other ships now, instead of waiting another few months, and I thought others might want to as well.

I am sure that when TBP makes official versions of these ships they will be of superb quality, but for now I think the ones I have work pretty well. The team can be assured that I will state as much as possible that these models are not 'official', and that you are not responsible. However I would like for you guys to help me and others in trying to mod freespace 2 this way independent modders can create better quality.

There isn't a font size big enough to attract the attention of every person who visits our site to tell them the difference between what we've released and a "unofficial release".

My view is the same as Eternal Ones, release it if you want, not a big deal, but we can't support it publically. I definately understand the want and need to have more ships, but know that we will eventually cover that ground ourselves.

Again, make it abundantly clear in your readme that you should be the one to deal with any problems (should there be any) caused by the addition and not us. Thats all I'm really concerned about.
