Install instructions made easy

After suffering an hour of CD swapping and crashes here are all of the assembled tips on install. I am not sure why it is so complicated but judging by the forum I was not the only one.

1) Backup your /data folder from freespace 2 andf then uninstall the whole thing.

2) You have downloaded the four files right? If not, do that!

3) Install freespace2. Save HD space by not installing briefings- there are better ones!

4) Extract the core file to the /data directory of your new freespace install. Be sure you leave the default path checked, even though you have told it to put them in games/freespace2/data. This will save you much agony later.

5) Extract music and anims into /data, leaving the path thing checked.

6) If you have a relatively new video card, extract hi-res to /data. It will then overwrite everything you have painfully downloaded already in terms of textures, etc. This is a good thing if your video card can handle it.

7) Restart the computer to clear up all the post-install stuff.

8) Start freespace2. Go through the setup. Begin salivating.

9) Make a pilot. Call it something awe-inspiring. Drool a little.

10) Begin and see the glory of the new mod screens. Do not start playing yet. You will be trapped in the training missions.

11) Hit the Campaign button and select Earth-Minbari War Demo. Find something to wipe all that fluid off your lap.

12) Start the missions. When you see the new load screen and the briefing animations and find yourself thrust into darkest space with two Hyperion cruisers, bow down and thank whatever gods you believe in that the TBP team kept this going through many painful years.

13) Do not laugh at my voice. I agree it sounds horrible.

14) Thank the team again. They rock.
