Question Release on Coverdisk?!

I remember a while ago some-one discussing getting a PC magazine to feature the mod on a coverdisk as freeware.... did anything come of this? Because it would save a lot of DL time for most folks

(related to another post earlier)

Just wonderin'.

I think that would be very awesome for us, perhaps i should contact PC Gamer about it (with the permission of the higher ups here of course)

I'd hope so... with my 56k connection it would be very hard for me to D/L the mod (when released) at present.

Plus it would help revive interest in FS2.... I think a lot of people have forgotten it even exisits (although FS1 is 1 of 3 praised in one mag I was reading as an alternative to...lemme think... buying Echelon)

Good luck if you decide to try it, anyway.

If the HalfLife mod "Wanted" appears on Cover CD , then TBP has a good chance too.

Well , but there are other issues like copyrights and so on , I think we discuss this when we HAVE something for Cover-CDs . IceFire is the one with the insight here.
TBP on COver CDs, that means we have to go for even more quality now !

The wanted mod for half-life has been put onto a coverdisk for the UK PCZone mag.

Just use getright, if it was 180 megs it would only take 3 nights.

It would be great for the mod if it did make it into the mag and the demo disc.

Didn't PCGamer release the Awakenings campaign on their CD once?

Wooooooaaaaa down

That was one of the things we found out early on, there is no way due to copyright we could put the mod on a coverdisk on a magazine. Due to the fact that they don't give it away for free, the only other way would be thru Sierra who hold the license and I don't see that happening any time soon!

They're was a PC Gamer that featured some pics from the MOD (yay!) but that was about a year ago, I don't think anything will have changed since then regarding releasing the files.

Awakenings, like Warzone, Derelict, or Twilight to name a few is an original release based on FreeSpace. Since you have to have FreeSpace to play it, the legality problem doesn't really show its head. Its why mags can distribute Half-Life MODs and the like.

Babylon project uses FreeSpace, but we don't have the license and we certainly didn't create the universe or the elements thereof, so its not an original release and we don't own any of it.

The other thing is that if the MOD gets put on FilePlanet, they can send you a CD with items on it that you want.
