GVJ Semnai render

Here's a picture showing a few shots of the GVJ Semnai.

You can expect more ships coming soon in this sneak-peak format.

Evidently, Vasudans love not just fishes, but large molusks as well, hence the oversized squidship seen above.

It's awfully, um....blue, isn't it?

Posted by Arnav on 06-03-2001 05:30 AM:

Argh I can't see anything Ace!

Posted by Ace on 06-03-2001 05:30 AM:

That is not the actual coloration of the ship, it's simply that way for the image

Arnav, the gamma correction of this image is a little dark, but not invisible.

I myself have a very dark monitor, and the image I believe can be more than seen.

If you insist that it's invisible, you can always turn up that little brightness knob/button/device on your monitor

Edit: From what you can see on this ship, what do you think are it's main characteristics? Why would the Vasudans build it in such a shape?

Even though you claim it's not mean for duking it out with other capships, but mainly for carrying lots of fighters and have a good anti-fighter defense (I think you mentioned it in the size chart post), but it still looks like it has a huge beam at the tip of each arm or something. The shape seems VERY similar to the Sathanas, perhaps they learned something from the debris, or from some OTHER source <insert conspiracy here>...
I suspect that the Vasudans also have their secret agenda. Perhaps the rogue GTI factions aren't the only ones with ETAK tech.

Posted by Ace on 06-03-2001 09:24 AM:

Well the "arms" on the Semnai are in truth the engine assembly. (unfortunately this may not be very clear in the various images seen so far)

Yes, I claim it's primarily a carrier, but the question is: What's that big assembly on the ship's lower frontal section?

Something to ram with?

Posted by Alikchi on 06-03-2001 12:59 PM:

Naw, it doesn't stick out long enough. Is it alaunching bay for the fighters? Umm..Some sort of sensors? Or..*bum bum bum* something more sinister? Could it be...
*drumroll*
A KNOSSOS PROJECTOR?

(EDIT) I think I got it. Is it possible? A docking bay door?

Posted by Snipes on 06-03-2001 03:26 PM:

Is it a fighterbay? Or a hella big beam cannon?

Posted by KillMeNow on 06-03-2001 04:17 PM:

change the colours and its a vorlon ship

Posted by Snipes on 06-03-2001 06:26 PM:

I'm sure those aen't the colors on it... he did say that right?

Posted by Ace on 06-03-2001 08:55 PM:

Killmenow, that is not the color scheme.

The image is done more in the style of the headers on FreeSpace2.com's ship section. (since in my opinion it gave a good look at all of the ships)

It has some similarities to Vorlon ships, however since the "squiddie arms" form an engine array as opposed to the front of the ship, in-game it looks nothing like a Sathanas or a Vorlon ship. (it also behaves quite differently too)

Knossos projector? Not a bad idea, I'll give a little hint:

Another ship you've gotten a little glance at in the ship size chart *does* have one of those

Edit: The image has been modified to better match the FS2.com style.

The Xanthus class?

A hella big beam cannon?

Posted by CODEDOG ND on 06-03-2001 09:23 PM:

hehe..I'm gonna go with Snipes on this one.... BIG ****ING BEAM!!!!! muhahahahahahahahaha

EDIT: IT'S A MAIN DEFLECTOR!!!! I THINK I'D RATHER HAVE A DEFLECTOR INSTEAD OF A BEAM CAUSE YOU CAN DO ALL KINDS OF STUFF WITH A DEFLECTOR!!!!

What? I'm not crazy! But the rest of you are!

I doubt such technology exists in the Freespace Universe

Posted by Ace on 06-04-2001 01:10 AM:

Deflector? Bah!

Think something more sinister...

ITS AN EMINMA TORPEDO LUANCHER!

OR a Protonaught bay!

A B.U.T.T. (Backwards utilised targeted torpedo)

OR i know.. Its a DRIVE THROUGH WINDO FOR CORVETTES!

the vasudans are going to corner the fast food market!

try the Shivan combo meal or the KONSU fries!

Edit: I know ITS A MASSIVE MALFUNCTIONING BAY!

the Colossus wasent buggy enough!

It's either a Lucifer-ish flux cannon, or the Lucifer shields of invulnerability, or, uh, hmmmm, something that either the Colossus (did I spell that right?), the Lucifer, or the new Carrier, have to do something with "Knossos projectors". I guess this has to go with Lucifer, since the Shivans know all about fiddling with Subspace.
The Shivans got to Ross 128 either through a Knossos, an unknown jump node, a jump node too weak for Terran travel, or they made their own node. How they did this might have been recovered eventually and put in the Semnai, making it capable of inter-system jumps (I'm thinking of the mini-campaign where the Moloch jumped around the system), jumping to nearby systems easily by creating its own nodes, and able to use the nodes deemed too dangerous for Terran travel?
Hmm?

(EDIT) It all comes together now! A GIANT FLASHLIGHT!

That's Backwards Utilizing Tracking Torpedo! Get it right!

The Shivans have at the very least millions of years worth of experience with the technologies seen on their ships...

Being able to make the manuvers they did during the great war is not the least bit surprising.

What to wonder is why with all of the advancement, isn't a Basilisk fighter more powerful than it is?

Edit: Added in the BUTT comment
