Demo Release

Available in the missions section of the Twilight homepage is the Demo for FreeSpace 2: Twilight.

This includes the first mission from the campaign, giving a total of 5-8 mintes of gameplay as well as one of Twilight's new weapons the Jonhsons Munitions NPW-2.

The demo is intended to be a small teaser for the campaign, and includes some intense dogfighting.

It's a 578k .exe file which should be easy to follow and use.

Enjoy!

woah... we have a few probs... & i havent even tried the mission yet...

1) The Command Briefing doesn't fit

2) The new cannon isn't working... remember, due to Kazan's wonderful work, tbl's don't work from within his VP's... remember?

sorta makes you wonder about whether his POFCS will work don't it?

ok, it WASN'T the VP file, but Ace just left the players Herc 2 bank 1 blank...

Ace, here's my list of Pros & Cons

Pro's -

  • Frentic

  • nice explosions

  • Good use of grammar (GOOD!)

  • Good to see that you actually used the AWACS radar array properly (the jamming was lifted when it was destroyed... most people don't realise that that spinny array IS the heart of the machine)

    Con's -
  • AWACS jamming field can be bypassed with the F-J cheat

  • Pilot-screen, Command Briefing & NPW anim don't fit in 640 versions... whether this is your or Kazan's fault i have no idea (Kazan has no care for anybodies PC but his own, therefore he probably left the normal version out or sumin)

  • Odd Mjolnir use... The Damascas was in already... a better use would be to place the Mjolnirs at strategic positions and have Alpha 2 shout 'Mjolnirs!' as the Damascas exits subspace, without enough time to evade... (would look cool, but its my personal opinion...)

  • I thought we had bypassed Invisible Loki turkey shoots after Silent Threat... they are too fast(& too well armed... you gave them Prometheus's & full-strength missiles! the #weak weapons are best for AI)... Myrmidon's or Herc's would be a better choice (Myrmidons have low loadouts, while Herc's pose less of a challenge cos of their low speed)

  • Whats the advantages of this NPW-2? It just looked like a trail-less (why was the trail included in the vp?) blue bolt that didn't cause much damage to shields or armour...

I believed that Kazan solved all issues with the demo, he did not.

The weapon does have trail effects and does massive energy drains on hostiles.

Also, the little cheat you mentioned should not work.

The command brief animations are also proper size.

I am truly sorry for the errors with the tables not being displayed, I'm going to have a very long talk with our resident geek... (in the mean-time a .zip version will be available)

I wouldn't rag down on Kazan for all of those things.

I already explained to you Ace that tables are not read within a VP file. To my knowledge, unless its in the /tables directory or the root_fs2.vp, then it just doesn't get recognized. I could be wrong...you never know...I never did use the FSMM2 VP maker.

    Posted by G-UK on 04-02-2001 09:30 AM:

Erm, the cheat has always worked, and always will...

the CBAnim fits... the text doesn't (remember, there are no scroll bars on the command briefings)

    & it wasn't that the tbl's aren't working...
the .fs2 doesn't have the weapon enabled... they are turned off in the team loadout menu & Alpha 1's GunBank 1 is empty...
    Alpha 2 & 3 have just twin Prometheus's

The mission file does have the correct loadouts.

Also, I have taken some measures to work on that cheat.

Finally, Kazan told me that the .tbls should work due to things he did with the installer, the fact that they did not after he told me so does give me the right to rag on him.

Also, the text *does* fit on 1024x768 resolution, if not then E-Mail me the issues.

In the future E-Mail all bugs and/or issues to: adamant@pacifier.com

    Change to high-res, you pansie...

Posted by Ace on 04-03-2001 01:24 AM:

In the readme it does state that it is designed for 1024x768.

Thanks for letting me know what resolution you are running in, I'll work on making the final version more compliant with lower resolutions.
