Debate: Earth's Technological Edge after Endgame

Heya Everyone. Okay, debate time.

I'be been reading some of JMS' notes on Lurkers Guide and some of the comments have made a few impacts on me. After Endgame, Earth has access to artificial gravity, Vorlon technology, Shadow technology, and all the most recent Earth based advancements.

This means that Earth has access to alot of technology. We've seen that the Warlock and Victory class destroyers have some of this technology built into them and with the Omega-X's we know that Earth can do a fair amount with armor and weapon systems from the Shadows, so...the question is, do ships like the Warlock have the firepower to take on a Sharlin in a full out battle. If the Earth-Minbari war happened about the time of Crusade (ignorning all implications preventing that), how would Earth have done against the Minbari?

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-26-2001 03:58 AM:

hmmmmm i think the warlock could certainly give a sharlin a run for its money but certainly the fight would be alot closer than the last time but overal for the games purposes the armour is probally as good, it will maybe be abit slower ans weaponary wont be quite upto sharlins specs but still pretty devasting probally shorter range too - of cource since in the series we saw so little of the warlock what was it 1 appearance and it didn't even shot anything its hard to say just how good it was

The only reason earth got its butt kicked so easily by the minbari was they couldn't lock onto the minbari's ships. So if that situation has changed (with the new tech), the minbari would be in alot more trouble ( even with the ea ships they had back then).

Warlocks, Omega's that could lock on....well it would be more of a fair fight.

Quite true.

Actually...we see a VERY brief glimpse of a Warlock in A Call to Arms firing its multiple missiles at Drakh ships.

I really want to recreate that battle once we get alot more ships finished.

kinda off the subject abit but is the Excalibre an Earth Force ship or Interstellar Alliance ship?

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-26-2001 04:28 AM:

do we know if the latest Earth Force sensors can detect minbari ships? if not i suppose even the warlock would get its ass kicked

I'd say that if you gave me a Victory and a crew to man her, I'd take out Minbar myself.

i think i read somewhere that earth force has somethign like 20,000 capital ships if that figure is anything close to being correct the minbari would certainly get an ass whipping if we could hit them

Posted by DaFrenchman on 02-26-2001 05:49 AM:

The Excalibur is not an Earth Force ship; It is merely on loan from the Interstellar Alliance in order to better facilitate the crew and ability to research the needed vaccine for Earth. I'd imagine it would be returned to the Interstellar Alliance as soon as the mission was complete. However, I'm wondering how many people from that crew joined the Rangers afterward in order to stay on board. Also, another interesting note--Earth Force ships can't lock on to Minbari ships per se--they can track silhouettes as shown in (I believe) Points of Departure and No Surrender, No Retreat. The EA ships were able to pick up outlines but nothing solid...they were probably able to lock on to the ship but not certain sections (engine, weapons, nav, etc). At least thats how I see it.

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-26-2001 06:03 AM:

nah i think they could just detect the presence under optimal conditiions at long range and only track them well enough to hit them when at close range since being able to target them at all would still alow you to blow them up - how offen in b5 did they ever say target that ships weapons systems

Posted by Shrike on 02-26-2001 08:57 AM:

Well seeing as the GOD particle beams were designed to rip the front end off a Sharlin, and the Warlock has TWO of those puppies, not to mention integrated shadowtech computers (to what degree we don't know), my money's on the Warlock.

I understand that most of the Sharlins firepower is pointing ahead and back. So, if the warlock would come from the side. Kiss the Minbari goodbye

Posted by DaFrenchman on 02-26-2001 04:04 PM:

They did a lot of targeting just engines and stuff during the Civil War campaign, and most of the time they merely disabled ships not destroyed them if at all possible.

On the Warlock vs. Sharlin...I'd have to go with a Warlock. Between the GOD particle lasers and the 3 railgun turrets, combined with the missle launchers, I'd say the Sharlin is dead where she stands. The railguns do only kinetic damage, and would inflict greater damage than most particle lasers because there is no chance of them being deflected (they're not energy-based).
Also, the Warlock has a much larger fighter compliment, and I think that the Thunderbolt is a much closer match for a Nial than the old Aurora and Badger starfuries were.

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-26-2001 04:30 PM:

i'm not so sure about these super wepaons on the warlock when did we ever see them in action where as the sharlins main guns could stop a show vessel and that took some doing

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-26-2001 04:31 PM:

shadow vessel even - i imagine show vessels with there traveling threatre groups would be quite a challenge too but still i think shadows might be abit tougher

Posted by A2597 on 02-26-2001 07:17 PM:

EA would have a much larger can of whoop ass with their new sensors.... I imagion that the worlock and the like would have better ones, and if not, with beam weapons they could go to manual.

Sharlin has MUCH better armor than Warlock.

Okay, nose to nose fight. Imagine what would happen if both fired their weapons at the same time.
In my opinion, it's almost impossible to say who would win, Warlock or Sharling, without knowing the battle conditions, starting positions,,, and stuff...

But if Earth-Minbari war would happen after the Drakht war. I'd say Minbari would still win, but it would be extremley hard fight.

In a new Earth-Minbari war, again, Earth is demolished.

Think about it. A single Sharlin can take out a Warlock, and the Minbari have thousands of Sharlins, while EF has only a handful of Warlocks. The Omegas are a decent opponent as well, so Earthforce could put up a much better fight this time around. But still, no chance.

Posted by IceFire on 02-26-2001 11:06 PM:

Thousands of Sharlins? I doubt they have more than 800. Same with Earthforce. Its pretty damn hard to crew that many ships.

How many ships does the US Navy have? That'd be interesting to know.

Warlock does have the advantage of some Shadow, Vorlon, and Minbari technology so that technological gap has been decreased quite a bit even if its not full integration.

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-27-2001 01:05 AM:

anyone care to guess how a white star would do against a sharlin since we know how well white stars did aginst the omega x - also anyone would why they didn't start lobbing icbms into orbit when the battle of the line was almost over and just anialate everything in orbit or are nukes outlawed in the future
