FGN Online posted a short interview with Anoop Shekar, Assistant Producer on Summoner. Here's a small snip:

"Secondly with the style, having the Oriental and European influence definitely gives it a new flavour. Another thing that makes Summoner unique is the ability to summon creatures at will. In games like Final Fantasy when you summon creatures for a battle, they leave afterwards but now you can control them. They become a member of your party when they're around. It's a different style of RPG."
