Ship Models

Is there anyway to get the original ship models out of Freespace2? Or, perhaps they exist somewhere in another 3d format. Dxf, 3ds, max, lwo, etc. I downloaded the model viewer which lets me browse the ships in the game, but I was wondering if there is anyway to get them out so I can play around with them.

Thanks.

I suggest you get it

go to freespace.volitionwatch.com

In the Freespace 2 menu area hit download (or is it utilities?) And download the FS2 kit

or someone'll give you the link

The one I originally downloaded was called FS2View.

Cool! The toolkit let me export a pof and I then converted it to a cob. Of course I just spent the last hour or so looking for an object converted and finally found one, downloaded it, and converted the cob to lwo just as the demo of TrueSpace was about to finish dloading. Here's the link in case anyone is interested. The one I used was 3D Exploration. Seems like a pretty cool converter and costs less than PolyTrans:

FS2View is just a model viewer that views models from the game. Now, VP files are big non-compressed archive type thingies that HOLD all those files. The VPView utility allows you to browse through those VP files and extract what you like. It works almost seamlessly with its other components such as ANIView (for animations) and Modelview (for viewing POFs).

It is obtainable at http://www.descent-network.com/descman

Speaking of vp files, how do you make one for a campaign or such?

VP files, like Quakes PAK files ARE compressed... thats why you need VPView to open it... if it could be read by any program, Volition would have made it so...

You mean "Ahh to hell with it, no one's gonna buy it anyways."

I bought it.

And love it...

I'm still playing and making MODs for it

Posted by Snipes on 03-27-2001 03:50 AM:

I've been focussing on weapons mods, until the Bastion, and the Astraea, and the Nexus are ready for work...

Weapons suck though... you can either make it super powerful, or hella weak.....

i have it - i'll contruct the vp when everything is done

Posted by Ghost of Bobboau on 03-27-2001 06:48 AM:

thats just it, V didn't want us to read them, they even encripted the TBL files in FS1.

Weak=for enemies
Strong=for player

Am I right Snipe?
If I am:
1. You suck at this game
2. You are weak
lol

First off, it's Snipes

Second.. what the **** are you talking about? I give the enemies the same weapons I use to see if it is truly balanced.

thx, Ice.

The thing I hate about weapons modding is that when you make it, you want a cool weapon, not something useless, but still not too powerful. That's what was crazy about the Kayser, it was way too powerful.. it could've (should've) been toned down a wee bit.

Posted by RKIF-DragonClaw on 03-27-2001 10:12 PM:

I was implying that Snipes sucks so much that he makes sucky weapons for the enemies and gives himself the awesome weapons... hahaha And I spelled your name Snipe because I forgot to press the 's' key ok?
