The Amazing Reincarnating Parvati

Is it me, or has there been an SC Parvati in Awakenings, Warzone, AND Derelict?

I know its in the first two, its in Warzone twice

is it a tradition or something now that i just brought it to your attention?

Posted by IceFire on 12-22-2000 04:21 AM:

I think its total coincidence. I musta screwed up in Warzone too

There are only so many Hindu names that come out even close to resonable from an English point of view, so that limits your choices.

We never used Hindi in Derelict - only Lovecraftian, so there you must be wrong.

In that case, use Indonesian or Celtic or.. whatever mythology. There's plenty more out there. Including the Aztecs actually; you might want to look into that too.

Use the name "Babylon" a famous Ancient Rome city, famous for its hanging garden. Gardens were placed on the roofs of houses and when you were heading for Babylon it looked like the gardens were hanging from the sky which gave the name of the city "Babylon the city of the hanging gardens."

Babylon wasn't a roman city, if i remember correctly it was one of the great civiliations of the old testament, where all the israelites were taken after israel was conquered by (who else) Babylon.

See listening in sunday school can pay off.

I've gotten into the habit of using www.mapquest.com to look up city names from all across the world.

Just be careful not to get to carried away with "cool" names. In the Star Trek book "Imzadi" by Peter David he was appearently lacking inspiration big-time for some alien names, so he took the transliterations from hebrew of the Passover meal items (Baytzah (egg), Zroah (arm, shankbone), Charoset (a sweet traditional passower dish), Chazeret (traditionally lettuce), Karpas (parsley or celery) and Maror (Horse-radish; literally "bitter") - page 182-3, FYI). Needless to say, for me (I speak hebrew) it was just a bit ridiculous to read those names and to think of them as sinister aliens and not various foodstuff eaten once a year...
