Download size

For now, I only have one pressing question about BWO. How big do you plan it to be? I am prepared to download a ridiculously large file size for a campaign of this calibre - I'm thinking even up to 200mb (it had better be on a resumable server!). Nothing will stop me downloading this - but I want to know what your plans are.

Posted by IceFire on 11-22-2000 11:30 PM:

The missions themselves are VERY small, most if not all mission designers know that the easy part is your text files.

We'll try and keep download sizes as low as possible...of course the voices will take a fair amount of space and a few CB anims if we managed to get a few fully animated might take a fair amount of space.

I'll be looking to make it as small as possible. Probably use both ZIP and RAR formats as well as an EXE.

So... any estimate as to the actual size..?

Posted by IceFire on 11-23-2000 10:04 PM:

95% chance that its not going to be 200mb

Perhaps 8-10mb without voices...depending on the amount of media thrown in.

Sweet - I reckon up to 30mb would be easily within the 'acceptable' area, even for 56k users (like me). That is, without voices - though I doubt missions, textures and effects could fill up that much.

30mb at a 56K ?
No, no!

Posted by Kellan on 11-24-2000 09:04 PM:

Well, let's see...

We'll have some missions in there, which will be small enough - all the Derelict missions combined were only 3MB, and we're not planning anything quite so large as that for BWO.

Add to that the tables for ships and weapons (about 800kb max) and it's still small. What'll take up the space most are the models, textures - which will be essential - and then the voice and the animations (those anis are huge to be honest), which shouldn't be so vital.

That is if there are animations.

It's not so bad. Just have Getright or Gozilla and put it on a resumable server.

I downloaded the whole Escape from Monkey Island demo (120 meg) on my 56K modem. I just let the computer on the whole night (about 6 hours) downloading the demo.

I don't really care about the filesize. If it's a great campaign (which BWO seems to be) I could easily download 50-100 meg. Or let some friend with broadband download it.

hehe.. the EFMI demo was hella short too. I'm a huge fan of the series though, so I bought the game anyways.. speaking of, I'm on the final battle against LeChuck in Monkey Kombat right now.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH....you spoiled it for me.

No you didn't. I finished EMI in two days (two nights actually) Pretty good game, but I wanted to see more piracy things and LeChuck in the game.

is this where Thunder got obsessed with Monkeys?

It would be really cool if I woke up on Christmas morning and got a life.
-me

They probably weren't able to put LeChuck in to 3D like the other characters and make him look good.. that's why he was only in cutscenes until the end when he was in the stone statue guy in Monkey Kombat!

Hehe.. Monkey Kombat was hillarious, but it was a pain in the ass.. it took me a really long time to figure out on the last battle you only had to match his moves.

Hey i thought that this was about the download size.

Personally, no matter how much I like FS2 and getting new missions and MODs i would not download anything over 20mb as I cannot afford to leave my comp downloading for a long time.

Go for 1.3 gigs! Like UA!
