Review for PC RF
Having had this game for going on two years now, I felt it would be appropriate to try the game out on my computer. Unfortunately it has been somewhat difficult to locate the full retail of the game in stores, so last night I downloaded the Worldwide Demo of Red Faction.
I can not BELIEVE how well it performed on my rig. Imagine running Red Faction at 30 FPS average on a system like this:
Pentium II Celeron 466 with MMX
192 megs SDRAM
nVidia GeForce2 MX200 32 PCI (no AGP)
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
Logitech Optical Mouse
The only time the game would give me grief was when I'd Geomod a wall, which, to be honest, I figured it wouldn't even allow me to do with my "humble" system. Even MORE surprising to me was the loading of levels and precaching of models. Now I play Opposing Force, Counterstrike, and Half-Life DM online a lot, and many SP mods. It took less time to precache a level and models in Red Faction than it does IN HALF-LIFE. And HL/Op4/CS usually runs at anywhere from 50 - 70 FPS.
RF for PC is going on my birthday wishlist.
Good job [V].
(P.S: I have too much time on my hands
)

OMG.....you just now played Red Faction?
You should be able to find the full retail @ WalMart. $19.99.
Welcome to the fanclub!

Uhhhh
Where I live the nearest Wal-Mart is twenty miles AT least away from me. I have no car...
But I'm definitely going to buy the PC version... I've had the PS2 ever since it came out and I'm looking forward to RF2.

Re: Review for PC RF
quote:Why not? The game was intentionally designed with simplistic models and low map detail so that it would run well on the RAM-challenged PS2. The result was a game with graphics barely better than the original Half-Life. So of course it will perform well on a low-spec system. Runs smooth on my 450Mhz/128MB system too.
