Whitestar as pilotable...

I do not feel this is practicle the Whitestars are light cruisers. Now if you made a whitestar style fighter... Something like ISA tech mixed with a Starfury that would be nice.

Adaptive armour, beam weapons and turn on a dime manuvering. Kick ass and take names.

BTW, you guys rock.

Its nicknamed the BlueStar and it was in the very last episode.

Some people want to fly the WhiteStar....we'll make it possible...it just won't be part of the main campaign.

Posted by KillMeNow on 02-28-2001 11:48 PM:

if you make the white star pilotable will it have a beam cannon? on the other had if you make it a cap ship then the ai for piloting it will be limited to what you put into FRED yourself. and the whitestars always seemed abit more involved in chasing down ships.

Posted by Snipes on 03-01-2001 12:09 AM:

It won't e able to have a beam cannon, unless the source is released

Posted by A2597 on 03-01-2001 12:16 AM:

IT"S NOT THE BLUE STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Bluestar is a personal transport, NOT a fighter, the Hel'te'zah(Some minbari spelling) is the fighter.

It IS the fraggin bluestar

Hel'te'zah - thats a Whitestar prototype apparently.

Its called the BlueStar...by at least one site...and I think a couple of others too.

BlueStar was never used in reference to the Minbari Personal Flyer.

Oh, and will the Whitestar have docking bay?
Like in Call to Arms. And I think there was this episode, around Centauri-ISA war, where Lennier was "undercover" aboard one of the Whitestars.

Posted by Mr. Fury on 03-01-2001 04:20 PM:

Docking bay in a pilotable ship doesn't sound very realistic. Who knows what is player doing when a ships/ships should come from docking bay.

Posted by Prophet on 03-01-2001 04:51 PM:

What do you mean "realistic"?

What about a mission where player must pickup transport or escape pod, or transport someone or something (president, diplomat, information, other stuff) trought hostile area, or something...

"Realistic" in the game. Not in real life of course.

I have no idea if this would work

(Taken from Grand Inquisitor Dask)

Okay, time to (try) to put a little order to the chaos.
There is no ship that is OFFICIALLY known as either the Bluestar or the Smurf.

What is commonly called the Bluestar/Smurf is the little blue ship that Sheridan took out to Coriana Six when his time was growing short. This occurred in the final episode of Babylon 5, 'Sleeping in Light'. No one really knows WHAT that vessel was. It seemed to have a couple weapon pods on the wings and might have another weapon in the nose like a Whitestar, but as previously mentioned, it is significantly smaller than a Whitestar. It did indeed dock and depart from the forward shuttlebay at Babylon 5. One site online claims this vessel is only 16 meters long, though I personally doubt this due to the seemingly spacious interior of the bridge. What do we know about this ship? Not much. We have the following:

* It is NOT a Whitestar
* It is small enough to fit inside B5's forward shuttlebay
* It appears to be able to open its own jump point. We know this because it jumped out alone at Coriana Six.
* Like Whitestars, it can be controlled by one person. The extent and efficiency of this control is not known.
* Its coloration is significantly different from that of a Whitestar, having more blue than white. This may mean that it does NOT have bio-armor (Lars 'Hyperspace' Joreteg is a proponent of this view, as am I.)

Now to the Hel'zha...

The Hel'zha was the Minbari's first attempt at trying to get Minbari and Vorlon technology to work together. It was a heavy one-man fighter. Only three were built. They closely resembled tiny Whitestars. They were introduced in the (totally canon) novel 'To Dream In The City of Sorrows', a book written by JMS himself. One of the Hel'zhas was destroyed in the book, I believe Catherine Sakai (Sinclair's love interest for most of first season and the first human to encounter the Walkers of Sigma 957) died piloting that particular fighter. I'm not sure of this, because I've not read the book (I keep meaning to, honest!).

So what do we know about the Hel'zha?

* It was built BEFORE the Whitestars.
* There were only three initially built, one of which was destroyed in the first combat mission the fighters were used in.
* They DO possess some level of Vorlon technology, most likely a bio-armored hull.
* They strongly resemble tiny Whitestars
* They are small enough to be considered one-man heavy fighters
* For whatever reason, they were never widely used during the series since we never saw one. I personally speculate that while the Minbari and Vorlon technologies proved they could work together, they were strained to do so on such a tiny hull and required a larger frame to efficiently interact. That is personal speculation only, mind you.

Anyway, there you have it... What is known about the ship known as the Bluestar/Smurf and what is known about the Hel'zha fighter. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free to do so.

It's a smaller, personal version of a White Star.

That's what JMS said about it on the Lurker's Guide.

the fraggin whitestar can have a beam cannon.. it's a capital ship

Posted by Mr. Fury on 03-02-2001 07:51 PM:

Yes but it can be a little hard to fire it for player or AI unless you are using Nial style "beam" cannons. But that can be fixed when source is released.

Posted by IceFire on 03-02-2001 09:42 PM:

It has been suggested that we make it a turret with a very low firing arc and then set the beam to be a Mjollnir type non tracking and were set.

Posted by Prophet on 03-02-2001 10:39 PM:

Ofcourse something disabled or too slow can't enter the docking bay! Orion class destroyer has same problem (from certain point of view). Whitestar has the ability to stop when something has to come in. AI must have orders to stop, if needed. Stuff can be towed in by small tugs/bots.

Posted by IceFire on 03-02-2001 11:59 PM:

Shuttles work nicely. They can even tow Victory class destroyers around with enough of them

Posted by Mr. Fury on 03-03-2001 06:18 AM:

How can player pick up another object that is disabled? That is very hard to implement even with (possible) released source code.

And what if player is moving fast when another ship needs to go hangar?

Closest thing is X-Wing Alliance and when flying on Corellian transport you can pick up objects but they are outside of ship, NOT inside.
