A Question of Shadow Warp

Howdy All:

I'm a newcomer to the FS community, and I haven't even touched TBP yet, but I am a big fan of the series so I've been lurking around for a few weeks, reading your problems, questions, and suggestions. It occurred to me a few days ago that when the Shadows are fully introduced in later updates, they will require a different warp effect. How will this different warp effect be handled? Would the creater of a mission using a shadow vessel click on "No Warp Effect" and then have the ripple thing handled in some way by an animated .gif in some upcoming iteration of TBP_Open? Different warp effects would also be needed when other first ones are added, as their warps are bigger with some electricity hilights.

Later!

Source code modifications to the engine would almost certainly be needed to get a Shadow warp out effect that had any semblence to that of the show's. Even then, I imagine it would be no easy thing to implement.

Well, without source code modifications, we can't do the jump effect Shadow ships have. But until then, Shadow ships can simply disappear and appear without any jump animation. That is close enough.

We might be able to get the SCP guys to do it if we ask nicely though. Any code for shadow warp out would also be very useful for making ships cloak too

But against a dark space...

I personally think, that until good solution is found, it would be very acceptable that shadow ships can simply disappear and reappear, against a dark space and from long distance this "trick" could be hard to spot, so at least in my opinion this disappear/reappear effect doesnt spoil any fun, just in my opinion.

Yeah. I can live with it that way too but as I said since the disapperance code could be reused and altered slighly for use in cloaking we have a much better chance of the SCP working on this.
