Game questions

Hey there, Im new to the forum, and all that jazz. I've been talkin to Icefire, so I know most of whats goin on. I piss him off by askin questions on the project and on FRED2 all the time, so Ill come here.

I doubt this is ever gonna happen in games for a while, but will there be visible damage on the ships? The polygon count to show damaged models would be hard, when ships take long enough. I thought Freespace 1 and 2 did a good job, even with the little particle effect.

But, when a starfury blasts a transport or EA destroyer, will it show the same particle effect? Or possibly more debris? The show had alot of that.....shooting a Centauri cruiser down would take a while, but the damage and plating just flew off. Ships were ripped to shreds sometimes.

I know there is ship specific debris....much better than say, that borg cube with nothing left over.

AND, how will a destroyer go about taking down a fighter? Without aaa beam turrets, wont it be kinda hard? FS1 was easy....big blobs from the terran huge turrets firing at you, slowly, and with little damage. (I made em go faster in FS2, and do alot more damage).

Star Wars games did a good job with the turbo laser turrets....fast and deadly. But how will you guys go about it? Turrets that are fast and pack a punch I assume....I know it doesnt take much to blow up a starfury, especially unshielded.....

And yeah, I do get hit by the terran turrets and such quite often, but they do not pack the punch needed...if they do in the B5 mod, it would work out perfect. I think thats what you guys are doin anyhow.

Cheers

EA Medium Plasma turrets hurt alot. So do Minbari Anti-Fighter Beams.

The ships also have no shields, so they will be a lot easier to destroy

have you played Klingon Academy? the damage effects were pretty good there. And there is a new game about to hit closed beta called EVE: The Second Genesis that will have realistic damage effects :P
