Can''t run game-error message

Every time I try to load up a ship to play I get the following error message and several others like it.
Error: Invalid weapon name.

In sexpression: ( when
( true )
( good-secondary-time
"Friendly"
100
"Cyclops"
"Belisarius"
)
)
(Error appears to be: Cyclops)
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\Mission\MissionPa
rse.cpp
Line: 3552

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anybody know what this means and how can I fix it. The game will not let me commit because I can't arm my fighter because I have no weapons to choose from.

SHEESH!! I know you're a newbie but jesus, you really should read that FAQ.

Here's a line directly from the FAQ:

quote:
Question: I am recieving an error message that looks like this:

Error: Invalid weapon name. In sexpression: ( when

"Cyclops"

)

Answer: You need to go into the Campaign Screen and change your campaign to The Babylon Project Supported campaigns. FreeSpace 2's main campaign will not work with The Babylon Project installed.

No offense, but that is really getting annoying, think what would happen if everyone who downloads the mod comes to this forum asking the same things all over and over again.

Maybe we should add a message somewhere on the board which reminds to check out the FAQ before asking questions...

Like on 3DRealms' Duke Nukem Forever forum, check it out...

You know, not for nothing but I have been in plenty of other mod rooms. When I was flying falcon4.0 we had a huge forum. some of the campaigns, updates and overall mods in there make TBP small in comparison. And never in any other forum have I seen the level of hostility that I see in this one. It is much quicker to ask someone for help by posting a question then searching thru sometimes endless levels of text. If no one can answer it right away then you strap in and start looking. these forums are supposed to be for people to get together and discuss the game, new issues, problems, ideas, etc...
I mean what else are you in here for? To talk about the weather. I have no problem at all helping someone out that is new and might not be able to understand what is going on.
I have never seen a forum with so many uptight people in it before.

so how is the weather where everyone stays? lol

I once said this samething and asked why everybody is damn hostile and I got a anwer:
"Because of the Sierra"

Dont matter those people they are fustarated and they lose their temper very quickly, but they have a good sense of humor.

And as Kendoka I'm not allowed to burst my angry around, so I dont mind and I succest that you do same thing, because they aren't going to chance.

I agree about the unnecessary hostility issue. If you are not going to be helpful (or make a joke, etc.) then it doesn't pay to be hostile. Remember Edwin? Some of his posts may have been annoying to some people but provoking him only led to endless flame wars!

i can accept newbie questions i dont mind at all but the answers are in all the obvious places, our faq and on the information screen when you click on the file, its not rocket science you now, its quite easy to install, maybe we're just fed up or people asking the same rediculous questions.

maybe we just expect a little bit of common sense and maturity....

now posting a new topic for every question is rediculous, it makes the search feature less valid, and you should always do at least a quick search before you post a question.

i downloaded the darkage mod a while back, didnt know how to set up the file properly and it wasnt made fully clear in the forum, in the readme or on their website, so i posted a topic, but only after id exhausted all other alternatives as i know answering the same questions over and over again can become annoying.....

now im sorry your got off to a bad start in this forum we aint all bad but we do ask for a bit of respect in relation to the way to act about the forum if you want to get some back.

now let this be a clean slate

We had common sense and maturity when the forum started. Once you get popular, then it starts to go downhill. You can tell that Command & Conquer is REALLY popular because its just degrogatory, biased, uninformed, racist, and discriminatory over there.

We're not too bad most of the time. But this one is indeed straight out of the FAQ.

If I answered why everyone was hostile, I'd have to express a few personal opinions which would offend some people here why inflate the egos of others. Neither situation is good so I won't say it (but now I've just tweaked everyones curiosity, oh so many contradictions in human behavor).

Now, last point.

Some of the installer info may be a tad vague and so in the future we will fix that. Again, if the big questions that keep getting asked aren't in the FAQ, THEY SHOULD BE and let us know about it. Let ME know about it. Please.

I think the best thing to do is when someone posts a mssg conceaning a problem i think we should just post a link in reply to the FAQ page . ??.....and have done with it?

God, some people are so fragile, if you can't take a negative comment from someone over the internet, how do you leave the house?

In regards to searching endlessly before posting the question in the forum. Now who's not using common sense.
Example: How many people in here have been out driving looking looking for a place and pulled into the local convenience store. Now when you went into that convenience store did you go trudging thru the maps in map rack or did you simply look at cashier behind the counter and say: "Excuse me do you know where.......is?"
As for as the formentioned error being posted in the FAQ is concerned, have you seen the size of the text. If I didn't know it was already posted I would not know what I was looking at.

In regards to not starting new threads for a new topic, Well this has got to be one of the most assinine statements in the history of forums. What do you think they are hear for? If you're not going to start a new thread for a new subject than how is anybody supposed to know what it is you want. Why would I put a question regarding besters video in with one I have already started that refers to error running TBP or error trying to download files for TBP? Unless you where interested in the video it would never get seen.
There again it's just my opinion
"NO HOSTILITIES INTENDED!!"

Posted by Triggy on 01-29-2002 03:32 PM:

I accept your point fully - most of the intention behind pointing people to the FAQ is that because they are frequently asked, the chances are that if you read it not only will many of your questions be answered but you will learn many other things as well.

If a person is interested in learning more about The Babylon Project then the FAQ is a good place to begin. However, it is not the only place to begin and not the last place you have to look at.
