beam cannons
You can put beam weapons on your bomber as long as you have one with turret capabilities.
For example create a new level
give yourseld an Ursa or Medusa bomber
next edit the ships turret (just mount any weapon on the turret) create a new event,
left click the new event
replace do-nothing with beam-free
place an enemy on the map (cruiser or something bigger)
save your mission
open the mission with a text document
and scroll down until you find Alpha 1 you should then see the weapon mounted on your turret in the () replace the text with BFGreen, save the file and launch the game load the mission and your turret should be fire a massive green beam at the enemy!

Or better yet, add player allowed to the beam tags...
I did this about 2 and a half years ago... not to belittle this or anything, cause it is cool, and your way is inventive.
*wonders if he still has the screeny online*

"Snipes ...Is The Dark Continent."
A couple of Inferno's bombers (before the source code release) did this. It should need a seperate table entry that has a beam as the default weapon entry, though, because it won't work if you pick a different ship.
