-- Why is RF2 PS2 only? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=6241)

Why is RF2 PS2 only?

I think Volition could make alot more profit if they would make RF2 on the PC. I have a PS2 but i dont enjoy playing FPS's on it. Plus, the Multiplayer will be WAY better if you put RF2 on the PC. Anybody know if there are plans to make a PC version?

Well, considering the PS2 version sold sixty thousand copies in its first four days on shelves and a million units worldwide, and the PC version didn't match those numbers...

I'm disappointed as well; I want a PC version. However, that seems to be THQ's call, and in the interests of maximizing profit, PS2 only does seem to be the way to go these days.

Well I hate consoles, and I'd never buy PS 2. So if RF 2 doesn't go to PC there will be some nasty letters from me.

There is less chance of fans screaming out for patches and generally being unfair to the [V] team.

I still want ta PC version, though... PS2 would not be as good.

thq@thq.com

ask 'em. can't hurt.

I've asked plenty. They never respond.

PC users just demand quality, and some kind of response to problems. And some do get abusive when ignored, and tossed aside.

Well is support that much to ask for? Maybe if they supported the game even a tad more, people would have been a lot nicer. Now notice what they got themselves into with all the hateful responces lately. They really had some of the worst support I've ever seen for a game that did so well.

You know, people never seem to understand the situation is not as easy as "V sees problem, writes patch, fixes it."
There's time, deadlines on other projects, feasibility, and THQ's entirely seperate structure and wishes all needing to be taken care of. Sometimes something gets dropped. Them's the breaks.

I don't like the fact that RF2 will be PS2 only, but I recognize why it's being done.

I don't think it's that as much as them not even answering our questions or emails. They kinda left us in the dust. That's what pissed everyone off.

HA! What you've got on a PS2 are crappy textures (thanks to its amazing 4MB capacity), some ridiculously low framerates most of the time, screen frequency that can not exceed 60MHzt so you cry your eyes out after 10 minutes, and colors that depends on your TV screen quality, which is far from the average computer screen. Not to forget the resolution, nicely blocked to 640/480, or something like that.

What's the point in taking care of develloping games for this piece of trash? MONEY! Cuz a lot of people do like to play without bothering about crashes, patches, installation issues, settings, and so on... So they play consoles, and they cannot be blamed for this.

But I remember a friend of mine, avid console player (PS2 and recently Xbox) which came at home and saw Aquanox running on my PC. He said he had to forget what he saw before being able to play with his PS2 again... He he he PC RULEZ

[SIZE=1][FONT=times new roman][COLOR=blue]Good, let ps 2 keep RF 2. What's going to change, the engine or the story? who cares? Most of us posting on here is into the multi aspects of a game. They did a horrid job of handling RF 1's multi (although yes, it's still fun running around killing everyone). I don't care if THQ and Volition need to spend man hours to update the game. It shouldn't matter if they have other projects and deadlines to finish and meet. Why? Because if the current one has problems, people will lose faith in the company and all those future projects won't matter. This game sux, why buy the next one THQ puts out? I for one won't support any more from either. On the other hand, THQ and Volition could learn a LOT from the way Blizzard handles their games, from playtesting to patches/updates to cheating problems.

And yes folks, Psi-Wolf is back. j00 \/\/1[[ 0\/\/|\|z3|2 m3|-|~!

*Falls out of chair laughing*

Thats not [V]'s problem nor is it THQs problem, it's your problem.

*Gets back on chair still laughing*

yeah admiral, im laughin' too

anyways, i was miffed they're not going PC, but DAMN they sold so many more copies for PS2, seems kind of redundant to publish a PC version, spending excess time and money.

hell, ill borrow a friend's PS2.

You can't judge a game by its graphics. Well, you can, but it's not wise to. Space Invaders and Tetris are still amazingly addictive games, and GoldenEye is geat for multi.

The only problem in RF worth a patch was the multiplayer cheating thing... but if [V] made a patch, some hackers would find a way around it and people would start cheating again. Back to square one.
Besides, Red Faction is running out of good servers to play on. The better half of NGI is down, Farslayer and Mr Poo are gone and Viper 2.5 is also down.

Posted by Jekel on 05-24-2002 03:42 AM:

hmmm. I played on Viper 2.5 the other day, NERV has like 4 servers up, Plus and AOD have servers up HTR and XtC has a good server up. Those are the ones i play on, and there are several good private servers. Other games manage ceaters well, as stated many times. V just didnt care to invest the time to do it right. Simple as that. They had their eyez on the console players cash.

Haven't you ever heard of companies waiting to see if there is a REAL demand for a game on a certain platform?

Make enough noise and you shall be heard.

You have been Regulated. Goodbye.

Posted by ahmedjbh on 06-02-2002 03:06 PM:

There wont be enough demand to beat off all the [V] haters there is out there, frankly i understand the haters, they paid there money thinking they will get a good multiplayer game, now its buggy and filled with cheats, and [V] have all but given up on rf1, they feel like they been robbed.

You know, some people don't seem to get that without us, THQ won't deadlines on other projects, won't need to worry about feasibility, and sure as hell won't be stuff to drop. Maybe they should have considered this before they decided to ignore their online gaming community. That's what can make or break a game. Check out counterstrike.
