Incompetense r us!

I orderd a new computer from dell in december...
I was supposed to get it in january, then february and last time they said march. Actually i've gotten everything EXEPT the computer! I have the monitor, speakers and so on, but no comp...
They said they would contact me "as soon as possible, but not today". That was FOUR weeks ago!!!
I've sent two letters to them, but i've gotten no response yet that makes any sense... What do you have to say?

Posted by ns33 on 04-09-2002 08:17 PM:

I have Dell... [EDIT] one and a half, actually

A 500MHz desktop from four years ago...

and...

a new Inspiration 8200 laptop which I just customized and is in the process of getting made with a ONE POINT SIX GHZ processor speed (1.6 GHz)!!

How the hell can they fit it in the computer and not have the damn thing overheat?! (fan runs all the time... annoying)

Make sure that when you build your own computer you order parts from wittandsons.com since they kick ass.

That's not all that bad, Hayabusa...it'll run FS2, at least! I wouldn't know about Summonner or Red Faction; never played the former, never owned the latter.

Actually, FS 2 runs very good in high resolution. Summoner and red Faction would collapse I think, but never tried.

The solution is to buy old games, they`re cheap and ALWAYS run

Ah, another plug for your dad's friend's uncle's former college roommate's site.

I personally prefer Directron, Newegg, PCNut, 2cooltek, and CaseETC for all my online ordering, but hey.

and actually, $1600 for that setup? Not too bad. I'd like to know what the hell Dell's smoking these days. They used to be awesome with this kinda stuff, now they seem to fubar everybody's order. My roommate's...a girl downstairs, now yours? weird.

boast yo specs.

i payed a lot less than 1600 dollars for my machine, and it would wipe the floor with that dell average PC.

(* = integrated into mobo)
Athlon XP 1600+
MSI K7N420 Pro
-*nForce (GF2 equivalent) w/ 32 megs DDR ram
-*Dolby 5.1 surround sound decoder
-*10/100 network adapter
-*ATA/100 Controller
SB Live! Value
TDK 4x12x40 CDRW
Dual 40 gig maxtor ata/100 7200 hdd's
256 MB DDR ram

and something for the sound system:
JVC Dolby 5.1 / THX surround sound decoder
-Hooked up to 5 messina speakers
-IBM subwoofer

there's more i can probably add, but i have to get back to workin on my car. f-ing VW's... there's always just ONE thing that makes work go NOT smoothly.

Interesting... I was just looking at those the other day. They sound very promising (especially seeing as my Athlon 650 with GeForce 256 SDR is looking quite dated), but I didn't know whether to "go out on a limb" and go for an nForce powered board, or stick with a VIA powered one.

In any case, since the new DDR333 memory is being introduced I think I'll hold off for a while longer to make my descision.

so far a friend of my dad's bought the same board before me -- he follows their message board, bios updates, everything to the point. it's incredibly stable (if im correct, the X-box's mobo is the same design and on the nForce architecture).

overall it's more stable, and with windows XP i notice the speed increase compared to windows 98 SE.

oh, it helps that my pc hauls ass as well

Umm... Did you really read my specs or were you just ignorant?

P 4 1800 mhz
512 rdram
Geforce 3 Ti 200
100 gb harddrive
Soundblaster Audigy
Windows XP
CDRW 12/14/40x
Samsung Dvd rom
Creative Inspire 5.1 5700
Alcatel ADSL modem and a network card...

Oh, I've been gone for a while now because i finally got the darn thing a few weeks ago

Woa dell really did **** u over, not only on actually not supplying u the pc but actually the amount u paid for it. Hell that kinda pc would only cost £900 if that, u got hella ripped off

Manko do you know why that PC was $1600? because they put an underpowered, overpriced P4 in that biznatch. AMD Athlon XPs wipe the floor with P4s, especially since the 2.1s are in production (or are they already released?).

that 100gb hard drive is more than liked EIDE or UDMA (1, not the newer ATA/100 models) and not made by a well-backed brand, running at 5400rpm with a 128k cache on them (reduced performance).

windows xp. *skoff*. i got my XP pro (OEM, not one of those stupid 'restore' cds) cd for free.

again, i cant stress more, what are the brands of your GF3, CDRW and HDD. believe it or not, these things matter. And i (and many other people) spent the extra buck in some places, and saved 10 or 20 in others.

the way you do that is through smart shopping for parts and pieces. Now usually I associate buying Dell's, compaq's and HP's for people who dont know jacksh!t about PCs and just need something to go on the internet and hold cups.

but when someone palms off the impression they know about PCs, what's what, and the real value of things and BUYS A DELL OR HP OR COMPAQ, that seems kind of redundant. its like, an insult to your own intelligence.
