-- Omega-class during EA-Minbari War? (https://volitionwatch.game-warden.com/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=5073)

Omega-class during EA-Minbari War?

I just finished watching In the Beginning, and thoroughly went over the scene with the Novas looking to be firing a weak beam cannon (geez if I knew how to hook up my DVD player to the computer so I could take some still shots), and in the upper left corner I see an EA vessel with the distinctive rotating section of an Omega class destroyer. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Omega class come out a short time prior to the Battle of the Line? Or is this one of those infamous CGI glitches? BTW, it's in chapter 13 on the disc, or about 36 minutes into the movie, if anyone wants to check on this.

It is a CGI-glitch, if it even is there. I'll have to check it out, but there were no Omegas during EA-minbari war, before or during battle of the line.

Well, my DVD does have a pretty good zoom function, and yes, there is the rotating habitat section, complete with beacon lights. And yes, the Novas are using a low-grade beam cannon of sorts. Guess they put that equipment G'kar sold them to good use.

Yes, I have only a VHS, but it's definitely there. Looks like that scene had even more CGI-glitches than I first realised.

Now, if you just mail me the DVD ... I'll cap screens for you.
It just might not get back to you

We've had this discussion before and there is an erroneous Omega Destroyer in that scene due to CGI error.

The Nova Dreadnought already had laser weaponry (as of 2225) before they even had pulse weaponry mounted on the Nova (2242). This laser weaponry was an EA technological invention but Narn weapons sales allowed better beam weaponry to be installed.

Whee! Ha, that's a laugh

_AN_ Omega destroyer? Try 5 or six. When the screen first goes to the EA fleet look at the extreme right, you'll see an omega destroyer. Also look at the far background, there are about 3 ships back there which apparently get destroyed by Nial Fighters. They all look like Omegas too.

No no no. Those are Novas, they don't have rotating sections. Only the one in the upper left corner has one.

Nova's and Omega's are very similar except for the spinning section and all the big guns that the Nova has.

Angry Oh really? I never would have guessed.

Thanks cowboys, but I've only been watching B5 and playing B5Wars for years. Try popping in your cassette and verifying what I said before you tell me I'm wrong. The ship on the extreme right is an Omega Destroyer, the spinning section is there as plain as day and if you cant see, well . ..

Yes, there's also an omega in the upper left that gets blown in two.

The look at those three ships in the back that are (apparently) destroyed by minbari fighters. See the little red hangar in the middle? See the funny shape of their body? Can a Nova Dreadnought's body extend that much from the hangar in two directions? I dont think it can. Must be a rotating section.

So the CGI goofed. It wouldn't be the fist time-just look at Severed Dreams.

I'll be damned. He's right. You have to go frame by frame to see it. There is one on the far right just as the camera shows the fleet. 3 as the camera pans across the fleet and do indeed appear to be dstroyed by nials. 1 on the far left.

Theres no question about it. I have a few captures of the ITB moovie (hi-res avi ripped from DVD version). when the minbari hits that EA ring station I saw at least one OMEGA destroyer crystal clear, no possible doubt, it's it (far right). If it is a GCI glitch its huge one, repeated several times over. I smell a rat in here.

Could you post those captures here so we could see them too?

Omega's first chronological appearance was in 2256, when John Sheridan took command of Agamemnon. Howewer, Agamemnon wasn't new ship then, so Omega class is older, but how much older?

Edit: Earth-Minbari was begun on January 12, 2245 and ended in 2248 if I remember correctly.

OK just wached the clip I mentioned above again and saw 3 more of them. I barely saw them, were briefly visible just before numerous explosions obscures them (far background). I cant post any pics because I have nowere to upload them. but if you wish I can send pics to any volunteers.

I will try to install my capture card tomorrow and pull the screens from a very bad vhs tape. I am rather tired right now so I don't want to go openning up my case.

Whee!

Yes Mr. Fury war started 2245 and ended 2248. Yes Agamemnon was old ship then.
If I remember correct Omega was in hurry build desing and upgading & constructions started almost right after Battle of the line (was it year, half or two?).
In the end Omegas were needed because most of EA fleet was destroyed and those ships which survived in Minbari war, wasn't capable to protect Earth. And in this point Narn weapons came in picture, most of them were still usable (And that I explain with red beams in both EA and Narn ships).

You dont even belive who these topic have given ideas to me.
