Needing desperate help

could anyone help me, i've been trying to convert freespace ships to COB files. But the COB files don't end up very good. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Thx in advance.

Wecome to the VWBB.

Which program are you using? PCS? If not you might want to try it.

Looks like Cpt White has supplied the link for me

use kazan's pof constructor suite

its slightly alters the hierarcy , but basically keeps the structure

well the ORION looks like a big grey box, instead of a ship.

1 - you need to put the map files for the object in the same place as the COB file.. I think they have to be BMP too.

2 - you also need to hide the lower detail levels if you want to see the higher ones.

that is becase that is the lowest detail level, you need to hide/delete all LODs you don't want, wich is usualy all of them other than LOD0

note; I can't see you're pic

well, I can see your pic, and can confirm that that is the problem.

Each freespace model is actually several model files.. the game displays a different complexity model depending on your setup, and how far you are from the ship - known as level of detail or LOD.
Lod0 is the highest level of detail; as the number goes up, the LOD goes down.
In freespace models the model name might be detail0 detail1 or shipname-hulla shipname-hullb (where hulla would be LOD0)

in the program you're using there it looks as if you need to press the [+] icon where it says Freespace2 Model and then untick everything except capital1-hulla (or equivalent) and it's children.

the textures are PCX files (probably named capital1?????.pcx in the maps directory), which probably need converting to (the same name) BMP files, and putting in the same directory as the ship.
