New Olympus model?

Will there be a newer higher ploy model for the Olympus? I think it could be better looking and the texture maping could be more dynamic? I need one like that for my campaign it could also use more guns 2 at the most.

Why add guns?
Isn't the Olympus' in TBP armed like in the show?

And just if you havn't noticed yet, the modders try to bring the ships into the game as accurate as possible.
No, not try. They DO it, and they do it great!

AND too much polys arn't always good, because in B5 many battles are huge, with many ships in it (like the Line for example).

Posted by Xaphod_x on 05-26-2003 11:57 AM:

yeah, the Olympus is quite ugly.. but that's what the ship looks like. Add a few more polys and sure, bits of it will be more rounded.. but it'll still be ugly. It's an ugly ship. That's what it's meant to look like.

Cool In the navy...you can fly a brick

I actually like the appearance of EA ships. The Omegas (by association the Novas) look rather good to me. The Olympus is an ugly box, but that seems to fit the ship (it may be ugly, but it does the job).

Posted by Strider on 05-27-2003 11:41 PM:

But the Olympus DOESN'T do the job. It got wiped out in the Earth Minbari war, then nobody bothered to make many more afterwards.

Its a box in space, and it sucked at its only job!

What do you expect it's a escort ship, it's supposed to by time for the big guns to come in. It was never intended to go up against a major cap ship, and anyway I don't think there was any AE ship that did that well against the Minbari.

Posted by Boron Shark on 05-28-2003 10:36 AM:

The Olympus is an escort vessel, designed to protect convoys of freighters and passenger ships from minor threats sich as raiders. Even this is does badly though, the pulse turrets are woeful and the missile loadout hugely ineffective. Not to mention that Raiders are adept at disarming these ships with alarming ease!

Yes they did. There's one in the last episode, it's one of the ships at B5 just before they blew up the station.

The only Earth ship I remember seeing in that was a Hyperion/Midwinter. (couldn't tell from the shot and they look identical from a distance.)

That doesn't prove that it is a new build, could be an old one that has survived.

Or it could be a different class of ship that just looked like an Olympus from a distance.

*sigh* I guess it's time for someone to find some screen caps. (Not I said the little black duck.)

Wasn't the Olympus an old vessel when the EA/Minbari-war started?
If yes, it would explain why it can't stand against 'furys or even Zephyrs.

The "Model Status" page.
The Earth Alliance Corvette Olympus has served the fleet for many years. Its undergone many refits and upgrades and served well during the Earth Minbari War. It is equipped with pulse cannons, a rail gun, and secondary loadouts. The mission of the Olympus is to provide escort support to larger ships and to convoys, a role which it excelled at during the Dilgar war. In the Earth Minbari War, the Olympus class was nearly wiped out, but after the war, several of the class were constructed and it has served faithfully as a border patrol vessel.
