-- How did FS2 sell so badly? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=8518)
How did FS2 sell so badly?
I don't get it. I just...don't get it. FS2 happens to be one of the greatest space sims ever developed by humankind, and...it sold badly? What the hell were people thinking at that time? How could it have sold so badly??? WHY!!?!??!?!?!
Now we'll never see FS3...NOOOO!!!!!!!!!! *sobs uncontrollably*

Probably because there weren't not enough advertising or stores didn't want them to root on their shops.
On Finland FS2 got quite good attention, I think.

Considering the non-existant advertising, and the fact the FS2 appeared at the all-time low-point of Space Combat Sims, it didn't do as bad, as people think. It cashed in it's budget, sold a bit less than FS1 (FS1 sold about 140 000 units, if I remember correctly, while FS2 did about 90 000 - 100 000), and well... at least it wasn't IWar 2, which sold about 14 000 (yes, thousand) units world-wide. But then Volition was bought, then there was the thing with the rights, plus the fact the Space-Sim market is as dead as always, with only Freelancer bringing it upwards right now. So no FS3. We've been over this.
It is however interesting, considering the number of copies it sold how popular it is. I mean, there aren't exactly a lot of forums as active as HLP for example.

It didn't sell good, but those who got it love it.

I don't think the lack of advertisement was as much a problem as the lack of hype was.
To be honest, if not for an ad of FS2 in a magazine I never would have gotten the game.

because the public only wants to play what the media tells them too.
actually, it's quite odd... the biggest game review paper in sweden said it was "the greatest sci-fi sim of all times"...
but I already knew about the greatness of freespace by then. and a year later, I accidentally found the game in a store...

It wasn`t sold so badly here in Poland I think... I mean, if we consider there was almoust no advertising AND that FS 1 was beeing sold in the very same time ( so when FS 2 came there was actually no one who had played FS 1 ) ... it wasn`t expensive when compared to the other titles, but there were little attention payed to proper advertising.
The space - sims aren`t so popular and it is also a problem.
Anyway FS 2 is one of those very few games I`m realy happy I have and I never regret I got it.
I suppose I`ll be playing it from time to time in next, say 4-5 years and that`s for sure.

I'm suprised it's still selling at all. I thought it was more or less gone. Although they still make FS1 everywhere it seems.
