Plasma's Insanely Difficult Trivia Thread
Same rules as the others... The questions are just a lot tougher. First one is an interesting problem that you may encounter at some point in your life (So pay attention to the solution, fool!)
The Question:
Remora is driving home during a rainy night in his souped up Honda (With huge spoiler, ugly decals and all). Suddenly WildWolf calls him on the cell phone and they proceed to gossip on the newest fashions, boy bands, and other assorted issues. Like a bolt of lightning Orange jumps out onto the road out of no where! Remora hunkers down and hits the gas, aiming right for Orange but he hits a slick muddy spot and spins off the road instead. The car is stuck in a huge patch of mud, making friction so low it's almost like ice. Remora pushes on the car but only slips and falls in the mud. He remembers there's a rope in the trunk so he gets it, ties it to the car and pulls only to slip and fall in the mud again. The car hasn't moved at all. Remora notices a nearby tree so he goes over to it, wraps the rope around the trunk and pulls again - Too bad for him another small patch of mud occupies the area by the tree and slips again. What does Remora need to do to move his car?
+1 point for offering the valid solution.
Call WildWolf to come and use his superpowers to remove the car from the patch of mud.
That or get his Car-Lighter compatible hair dryer and dry out the mud his car is stuck in.
He should flag down a passing car, and ask for help. If he gets the help he needs, he should put his car into Neutral, tie one end of the rope to his car, the other end to the other car, and have the other car gun it and pull his car out of the mud.
shazzbot!
I don't drive a Honda damnit!
Second, I would call Mr.T and tell him to bring the Hella Fast Vanâ„¢ to chase Orange's scrawy ass down!

You only have the rope, the car, the tree, the mud, and the Remora. Solve it.

He must realize that, as there is no spoon, there is no Honda. He should try to use his mind to bend the universe around the Honda, moving it away from the mud - that, obviously, does not exist either.
Or he could realize that japanese cars are crap and that he should have bought a Land Rover.

Can I switch their places and leave Remora stuck in the mud?
I'm not bashing anyone - I am just joking. I have nothing against any of the VW staff - in fact, not even against Orange...
Remora should bathe in the mud and pretend he's in the book "Lord of the Flies". Once this is complete, he can use some magical mud slinging and force the car out of the mud. By that time, its too late as he's no longer accepted in society.
Must... own.. button.. so.. hard.. to.. push.

Wow... I guess that was too insanely difficult for you folks. He can't realistically tie the rope around the tree and car and pull - He'd just slip again since he can't get any traction like tires might be able to in the slightly-less-muddy area (The problem is getting the car over there).
This is what he needs to do: Hook the rope to the car and tree, being sure it is drawn as taut as possible. Remora will then go to the center of the rope and sit down on it. Magically, the car moves! So he goes back to the tree and draws the rope tight again and repeats, moving the car even further. His weight and angle it creates on the rope makes the force of tension in the rope rise to incredibly high amounts. Assuming ol' Remmy here has a mass of 70 kilograms and the rope, after being sat on, is bent at a 2.5 degree angle from it's previous horizontal position (Which seems reasonable) the rope will exert an incredible 7863 newtons of force on the car (By comparison Remora might only be able to exert a few hundred just by pulling... Then again, he can't maintain his footing in this situation). And that's the answer!
hey Plasma, not to sound like a moaning windbag, but this is way TOO hard! I think I had it close enough, and you didn't specify if we had to be realistic
This isn't supposed to be simple. No winners for the first question.
Bonus Question: Solve for the amount of applied force in the above question using a mass of 70 kilograms and a 2.5 degree bend.
Gosh darn! If only these questions were asked last year when I was taking physics. I have to go through my notes and use them here
He should realize that he drives a Honda and just pick the car out of the mud. It's not like it's a huge Chevy Caprice or something.
He should call Mr.T with his patented Anti-sucka phone software on his laptop. Mr.T will come in his hella fast van and throw the Honda helluva high in the air until it crashes on Orange, which makes Orange some sort of Orange Juice. Anyway, Mr.T safes the day and I probably won´t get a point for this answer. ****!
