Red face Quirk about our Beloved Admiral

Not sure if you guys are aware of this, but I'm pretty sure that Admiral Aken Bosch's name was chosen fairly specifically.

Here's what dictionary.com has for "Bosch"

Dutch painter whose largely religious works are characterized by grotesque, fantastic creatures mingling with human figures.

And Aken, is infact an egyptian prefix for some names, it means servant of. For example, Akenaten means "Servant of Aten".

So Aken Bosch is the Servant of Bosch. So essentially, Bosch's vision is humans with grosteque creatures (ie the Shivans).

One thing I find ironic is that fact that Aken is egyptian, and egyptian naming conventions, as everyone knows is associated with the Vasudans whom Bosch doesn't seem to care for. The Vasudans actually sympathise with the Egyptians (well, sympathise isn't the right word, but what I mean to say is that they see parallels and find that the egyptian naming scheme suits them).

Anyway, I apologise if this has all been revealed before, but if not I thought it was worth sharing. The only reason I know is because during some dumb roleplaying tournament I used the prefix for my character's name as the GM had egyptian style gods.

That is cool....perhaps gives us a better idea of what Bosch's vision was.

Interesting..very interesting, actually.
Does anybody know where "Petrarch" comes from? It's probably just a standard name, but whichever..

Yeah, as i played the game I noticed almost every name was
symbolic of something. if u look up every fighter name, and every ship name it has some refrence to some pre 18th century figure.

Its pretty cool stuff. hmm maybe ill write a 500 word essay on it....
but i do wonder about the symbolism of the name freespace. [pardon me for going all philisophical on you guys] Is it about a

human ideal that space, and all access to it should be unfettred.
or maybe it warn of the impending disaster sure to follow when restrictions are places on space.... or maybe im a jackass.. i dunno what do u guys thing?

Heres a few links:

. Artemis: goddess of the hunt, represented by a sleek, fast, white bomber
. Hecate: a queen, represented by a ship with side flanks and a box-like shape, colored brown for a feminine touch (??)
. Hercules: ancient hero that freed Prometheus, represented by two fighters, one with 6 guns, the other faster and deadlier with 4 guns
. Orion: hunter, symbolized as the first GTA destroyer
. Horus: death god, represented by the fastest ship in the fleet
. Ravana: Indian god who kiddnapped a girl, represented with those two things in the middle
. Shivans: derived from Shiva, who possessed many arms, represented by the main beam turrets and arms of many Shivan ships, fighers and bombers included

You get the point.

Here's an interesting one:

Loki was the Norse god of mischief, also called "The Sky Wanderer". However, he and Ravana have a shared destiny - to lead the dark gods in war against the righteous ones.

Even better is the fact that Ravana was the ten-headed leader of the Rakshasa.

Hope some of that made some sense.
