-- Armor Strength Equivalent? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=6549)

Armor Strength Equivalent?

I noticed this on the BWO website.
What kind of scale is this supposed to be based on?
I'm a bit confused here.

The name doesn't make sense though. It would if the armor strength was being rated in terms of something else (like how nukes are rated in terms of tons of TNT), but "Armor Strength Equivalent" begs the question, "Equivalent to WHAT?".

If it was really "armour strength EQUIVALENT" then everything would be around 1 if it is equivalent to another ship. As Zylon said, it has to be equivalent to something.

Actually, you're both wrong.
Armor Strength Equivalent refers to the armor type as well as the magnitude of armor. If something has 300 ASE, it has 300 "armor units". It might have 1 ton of molybeneuxide ozone armor. Or 1.3 tons of ultramegaarmordeluxe.

....or....10,000 units of superkalafragalisticexpialadocious armor (and nobody is going to correct my spelling of that). I, on Ace's advice, made something up so that it wasn't just 300 points of armor. I tried to be a bit technical....I totally pulled it out of thin air...there was no scientific reasoning, no plot point to be mulled over...its just there. Ok
