Fleet sizes
After re-watching ITB i was wondering just how big are the EA and Minbari fleets i know that the minbari have one hell of a huge fleet and really so does the EA just wondering if there was an number to the size? Also which episode do we see the Omega in all her glory for the first time? Omega is the best ship in the Galaxy (apart from the Omega-X)!!!!!!!!!!

Well, in the Centauri-trilogy their new fleet consisted of hundreds of new capital ships. It was said that new Centauri fleet was larger than Minbari or EA fleet. Fighters are probably counted as ten thousands, for cap ships, star bases and planetary defense.
Oh yes, not sure but I think the first time we saw an Omega was in "Points of Departure".

You see the Agamemnon in 'Points of Departure'.

Is that the episode when Sheridan first signs on Babylon 5?
Anywho, First I had heard there were 200 Omegas
Then I had heard that the EA had a fleet of around 2000 capital ships during "A Call To Arms"
The minbari fleet is guessed to have over 10,000 capital ships.
b5tech.com has much bigger numbers, and some places have smaller.

One guess to EA fleet size is around 20,000 capital scale ships, and in the novilization of 'In the Begining', EA had 50,000 cap ships.
You got to remember the EA is larger than the other govs, bigger than the Minbari even.

B5Tech info is mostly crap.
I'll stay behind my words and I'll trust Centauri-trilogy which says that cap ship fleets are counted as hundreds, not in ten thousands.
EA may have larger sphere of influence but the Minbari still have much larger fleet, heck they have been building their Sharlins at least hundred years!
Edit: And 200 Omegas sounds much more realistic than 20 000 Omegas... just imagine how much it costs to maintenance 20 000 Omegas and 5 000 other cap ships and one million fighters! That's insane amount of ships, just think about it.
And even if EA have about 2000 Omegas, it's still to big. About 100 000 fighters. Huge maintenance costs...
Anyways, cap ship numbers in hundreds sounds much more realistic.

I always had the feeling the Minbari havn't been building that many ships for awhile. The Sharlins and their other ships are tough, strong ships, and not many have been detroyed (not since the last great war). If their ships are strong and havn't been defeated to often, they prolly wouldn't have felt any need to build many more.
And I didn't say 20,000 Omegas, just cap scale ships. That includes combat and non-combat vessels.

That 200+400-500 figure sounds about right, especially when you consider the industrial power of Earth today and scale that up (maybe ten-fold?) to the 23rd century.
Just imagine how difficult looking after 200 ships with a mass of over one millions tonnes each would be. Then add in all of the other capital ships, escorts and 10000-100000 fighters (weighing in at ~10 tonnes each) and see the scale of the maintenance problem.
BTW, how on earth did B5Tech get a mass on B5 to be over nine billion tonnes? it is stated quite plainly in the show at 2.5 million tonnes. I got my ~one million tonne figure by taking modern aircraft carriers and multiplying their size up.

In the episode where sheridans fleet takes back earth we hear that general in charge of the fleet of omegas say this is the biggest earth fleet assembled since the earth minbari war. And there were 30 Omegas.
If the EA had even 500 ships i think they would of brought more in to defend earth.

In the first episode of Crusade, when Gideon is just returning to the Sol system in his Explorer vessel, there is an ISN report playing indicating that the EA had just lost around 200 capital ships, though the death toll seemed a bit low in relation to how large the crews usually are...
I like the rather scalled down numbers. Loosing 200 capital ships is about right. It was a massive battle and the Drakh had most of their fleet there too.

In "A Call to Arms" we SAW 40 ships cuz thats all that could be rendered, in the first episode of crusade, they said about half of the 2000 ships gathered to defend earth were destroyed.

Omega has about 500 crew. This figure is from "my favourite b5 ships page that is in Finnish" and it's pretty reliable. This is based on 2 facts.
1. Episode "intersections in real time" stated that the Roanoke had a crew of 547.
2. In "endgame" Franklin mentioned "sparing 30.000 lives", when there were 30 enemy Omegas. He probably assumed that for each destroyed Clarks Omega, one Sheridans Omega would be lost too. Now if an Omega has 500 crew, 2X30X500=30.000, simple.
500 Crew is a little few for a massive MBS with over 1000 meters long!
Say abot 100 poeple for the fighter wings ( technicans, pilots...)
The commanding officers (20 I Think)
Some Marines as seen in the Episode mentiones before, about 50 and son 400 crewman.
I Think 600-800 is more realistic
200 destroyers and about 500 other vessels.
Crew complement depends on designated mission.
There is a lot of room available for different missions.
Like marines for boarding or ground troops and vessels.
I think normal crew complement does not include marines, only security personnel.

I know that a crew on the omega's and Novas can vary cos i read that alot of space can be cleared on them to acomindate for the extras like marines so the size of personal on a ship will depend of its mission.

Omegas were never designed for larger planetary assaults, thats what the Novas for.
