Any plans to use FS ships?
I mean as background detail you can blow up, say in a docking bay mission. Might be pretty cool - just an idea I had.
FS ships showing up in the mod is a possibility. The storyline we're working with now does call for at least one mission that involves the capture of a Vasudan transport and/or frieghter.
As for blowing them up in a shipyard, that's kind of doubtful.
how about windows and seeing great big mamoth ships floating outside - would be cool and if you could get the ships outsode to do battle but i'm guessing thats not possible

Jabu, given that this mod takes place during the T-V war, you're not going to see a Perseus.

i cant say i know anything about the engine red faction uses but can you use flying vehiels? cause that would jsut be soooooooooo cool =) fight in the air abit - land jump out and take on things in a ships hanger or planet surface fora change =) this would be so cool if it could be done - but i know shipt o ship combat would problaly be pretty poor but close air support role might be fun hmmmmmmmm- i wonder what a freespace tank looks like

There are five vehicles in Red Faction already that you just jump in and pilot, KillMeNow. One is a fighter which flies.. you do have ship to ship combat, and it's great. Check Red Faction Watch in the Vehicles section for more info.
Oh, and as for seeing FS ships in our MOD. For now there is a very strong chance you'll be seeing some. We plan on having some cutscenes where you see some ships flying around at this point at least. Possible freighter dockings, etc.. we plan to make it hold true to the universe.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i cant wait - hehe i always thought what space combat games needed was the option of jumping out of your spaceship and shooting some aliens up with a gun. perhaps an nice evade fighters type thing while trying to get into a docking bay of some big enemy ship - jump out then fight your way to the bridge and steal the ship or some vital intelligence from there computers - just curious though is red faction out over there yet? cause i dont think it is here =(

Following on from KillmeNow have you considered that at all. The idea of siting a few Freespace FPS missions within a FS2 Campaign. Now that would be cool...
You could take the game plot "to the stars" with jumps to planets, marine insertions onto the surface etc.
Imagine an Orion downed on a planet, the whole thing in glorious Red Faction 3D.
T-V war? Right... that's cool. Very cool. Quite frankly, Shivans scare me. I'd much rather be blasting Vasudans

Three suggestions:
1. Limit this game to being a prequel. Save the original FS campaign story for a sequel.
2. Put in inter-ship combat and pilotable vehicles if at all possible, but only if it can be made to work WELL. Don't remodel the Red Faction flyer and try to pass it off as an Apollo; FS players won't buy the oversimplification--at least I won't.
3. Definitely DO have FPS combat inside spaceships if at all possible. Map the inside of a patrol boat, for example, have it dock with a Vasudan freighter; then your team boards, makes its way to the weapons control and bridge, and takes over the ship. All this assumes the storyline can accomodate it, of course.

What we're also thinking of doing is including missions that don't dovetail into the central campaign, but including them as a series of stand alone missions (Like in XvT you had the campaigns and then that stack of stand alones for extra fun).
At this point running around an Orion destroyer in the main campaign is looking pretty bleak, but it may show up as a stand alone mission.
That sounds really cool.... I've always wondered what the inside of these ships looked like since I have only had a glimpse of them, inside the Iceni in the FS2 campaign.

Stand alone missions will work well. If your going to take good use of the Geo-mod tech couldnt you have a mission where you start outside a Vasudan ship and blast your way in or say crash your apollo fighter into the docking bay, jump out and blast them.

Since this is a few years before Ross 128, will the Vasudans and the Terrans have the same ships? I mean, maybe the Apollo will be in service - it was already old at the beginning of FS1. But you're probably going to see some early tech, right?

You'd have the Apollo, and the Angel Scout fighter (That the Valk was based on) And maybe the Valkyrie itself.
