about the beams on a player flyable ship just put them a secondary weapons with 10 sec reload time then it would be nice and the lasers as prims whatr u day to that ??

Ashrak, FS2 does not allow beam wrapons on playable ships

so the team had to use elongated bolts of primary guns

it'll be fun, trust me

This topic have been discussed for many times....

The end result, the missile trail doesn't look like beams....

Since there no way to get to the original coding,
this dream died long time ago in the mod team
with some trial and error, or just errors....

While risking to sound awefully pretentious...I'd say you do some research before you lift your wings and fly straight into a wall.

Beams are not primary nor secondary weapons (although if you want to talk ship table parser they are Primary Turrets) and we can't just change their properties.

I'll repeat the age old mantra of this MOD. "If you didn't see it in FreeSpace 2, we can't do it."

Its true completely and totally. All that were doing can be done in FreeSpace 2. We've just gone and done it. That applies to ambient lighting and that applies to beam weapons. We have the same freedoms and the same restrictions that the FreeSpace 2 team had (aside from the programmers who can apparently make just about anything happen).

well you see the targeting laser in fs2 makes a beem like the blue anti fighter beam from a fenris targeting laser and if you add damage to targeting laser you have you'r self a beam weapon so if you don't belive me download a trainer for fs2 that gives the ability to change weapons in fs2 and put one of the primaries as a targeting laser and you have your self a visible beam effect

trust me done it before

This has been picked though at EVERY SINGLE ANGLE!!!

The Targeting laser does NOT work for that. There is NO ASPECT of making lasers for fighters that they HAVE NOT TRIED, OK?

Look, there is NO way to do fighter beams, apart from the missile-trail version which a) Doesn't always look good and b) will not reduce power even when it is a primary.
The Targetting Beam is a beam, yes... but it will only ever fire from one point, will never drain the energy from your weapons systems and you won't get creditted with the kills.
And why do you want it to do damage anyways? It's role as the SSM is far more than sufficient

I do believe Freespace 2 allows beam on player fighters, it's just tricky to do. That Vorlon fighter that some guy did awhile ago I put a beam on it. I think you havta go into the weapons table, copy the targeting laser, then tinker with it's colors, size, and damage. I don't think it can have a sound or a warmup time but for awhile I also have Seraphim bombers with standard Shivan AAA beams. It makes for quite a bit more challenging kills!

Not completely, we (I) did put flak and AAAf/sgreen on a bomber... that wasn't in game

Although it is rather irrelevant now, there indeed was a mod that came out on the FS moding archives that featured beam weaponry on player ships.

However, I will assume that the good folks on TBP know about this and have come to the conclusion that it won't fit the model that they need..[?]

BTW, Londo, it is good to see you again. I take it this is where you've been hanging out for a while now?
