Desperately need help...

I think it stems from installing the latest ASPI layer, but _both_ my CD-ROMs are no longer working because their drivers are not being loaded properly or something. I thought I might be able to fix this by a simple uninstall/reinstall, but to no effect. WindowsUpdate doesn't have any drivers for the CD-ROMs, and I can't find a way to uninstall the ASPI layer that probably started this in the first place! Anyone here got any suggestions? Doesn't help to try copying the drivers off the Windows disc!

You sure Windows Update doesn't have any firmware fixes? It might not be in 'critical updates' ... but I remember reading something about it.

As for XP not reading CD drives properly; ummm ... arstechnica.com -> OpenForum -> USE THE SEARCH. Start in NT/2k Mojo ... it's there. Try another forum if you want, but I'm 99% sure the answer's in that forum. Search is very screwy, so try a variety of terms. If you don't get anything, then post. People like that

Hmm CD-Rom error?

What kind of operation system do you use?

If it is Win98 you should reinstall to the same directory where it is lying now

If you are running under the Win2k OS you should try to repair the error by running a level tree diagnistic on the main drive system. (Run the Win2k installation program and choose repair in the setup)

If you have a other OS please state it here so that I can take a look at the problem
