Size Comparison

Some people have been asking for size comparisons of the Golgotha with other ships.

Here it is!

Ohh jeeze...I've been writing HTML pages too much today.

Totally forgot about the UBB code crap

Hmm... nice.

That thing is BIG... for a destroyer

Yep.

Posted by IceFire on 01-07-2001 02:36 AM:

Alot of the length is dedicated to the beam cannon firing mechanism.

Its about equal to an Orion in standard beam duels. Its also dependant on broadsiding for maximum beam coverage. The design lent itself this way. Basically, the Golgotha can engage corvettes, cruisers, and smaller ships on its broadside while blasting the primary target with its main beam.

Its big, but only within reason.

how long does it take to charge the Gologthas main beam. I only ask because its HUGE!!!!!

Posted by IceFire on 01-07-2001 04:12 AM:

I think its 5 or 6 seconds.

If you set it any longer than your accompanying sound effect than it just kinda sounds strange.

The recharge time is 30 seconds as specified in the tables but in the missions we'll probably be setting the time using triggers.

Stupid question, but wasn't the Orion 2.1km long, not 2.5km?

Question tho, why doesn't Admiral Cole make any reference to the conflict with the Shivans in Derelict? Even if the Warlock once again took a support role certainly his obsession with Shivans would've, I dunno caught notice the Shivans were back again?

gleep......*Shrike does a bit of math*

I won't say how much damage it is per second.....

also at the end of derilict wouldnt we have access to a. the shivan portable knossos thing and b. kill that annoying supar a1 orion thingy?

Posted by Snipes on 01-07-2001 07:03 PM:

Why is it the Vasudans never get a really, excessively large ship?

Even with the Colossus, it was a Vasudan's Idea, but wound up being run, and classified terran.

Posted by Mr Carrot on 01-07-2001 11:45 PM:

cause they make the destroyers par excelence :P

one thing i have noticed is the lack of vasudan fleets in fs2 it was knida a few ships with the gtva fleets never any big groupings?

Posted by Snipes on 01-07-2001 11:56 PM:

I guess they don't trust the Vasudans to do well. Maybe they think the Vasudans will fight a little too hard, so they made them fight the Shivans? Because while the Terrans had the NTF, the Vasudans were stuck in the Nebula making all of the earth-shattering (pardon the phrase) discoveries...

Another question that many will be asking when the next major campaign within the Warzone-Derelict-Blackwater Operations universe is released is why the following ship despite it's being a major part of the FS universe of 2372 is why it isn't involved in these engagements.

Of course, the reason why is due to the fact that there are only 8 of these vessels currently in GTVA use, and all are command ships of the GTVA's primary fleets. (and yes, 5 of them are flagships of Vasudan fleets under Vasudan crews)

I'll just leave that the vessel is no Golgotha, but it's definately no Hades. (despite it's using the same hull frame to save time of developing the hull, a process that generally takes half a decade)

Maybe because it's only a reskin of a Hades, and we prefer all new models?

Posted by Ace on 01-09-2001 02:52 AM:

Well I could have had a new model done up, however I settled for simply having additional turrets placed, more subsystems, additional debris per subsystem, as well as some heavy tweaking on the texture placement.

Overall, the work done to modify the original .pof file was more than it would take to make a whole new model.

So you better appreciate it

Snipes is right, we prefer new models... no matter how much time your tweaking took

Posted by Mr Carrot on 01-09-2001 02:33 PM:

well i think it looks a 1 supar

but how in hell id they make 8 of them they must have made em hella fast and built didly squat else....

Posted by boct1584 on 01-09-2001 05:19 PM:

good question, how DID they make 8 of them? Realistically, the parts were already made and just had to be put together. Non-realistically, The Almighty used his powers of creation and built them for the GTVA.
