Raider CNC / League Base weapons

I'm posting this in the public forum because I want to get as many opinions as possible. What weapons should it have? what should they look like? Where should they go?

At the moment it has four light pulse cannons for fighter defence. Situated under the top disc. They cover 360o of the horizontal plane. Then there are the 2 medium pulse cannons for cap ship defence. Situated on the bottom near the docking bay. They look particularly naff IMHO.

It's hard to come up with a good defence grid for this ship which doesn't over gun the base (it had NO weapons in the show), has good coverage, and doesn't ruin the model's good looks.

Any ideas?

Medium Pulse turrets (used on Olympus) are not anti-capital ship weapons but rather anti-fighter. So you probably need a tad heavier weaponry for the two big turrets.

If you want them to target both fighters and capital ships, then I suggest EA Medium Plasma Turret or NR Medium Plasma Turret. But if you want them to target only cap ships, then I suggest EA Heavy Plasma Turret 2.

Instead of EA Light Pulse Turret I suggest using EA Light Plasma Turret which is not as good as Pulse. It is not a true military installation after all.

And fredders can easily change weaponry anyway.

Edit: Weapon placements sounds good to me.

It looks very good.

And the weaponary Mr. Fury suggests sounds quite fitting in my opinion.

Well it looks okay at the moment. The geometry is very pretty, but the textures don't yet do it justice. That'll change by the time Sigma has finished with it.

I agree on Furys weaponary, sounds quite fitting for it. Not too heavy nor too light.

I reckon have some weapon slots on the middle ring, similar to the raider pencil side defence
When i complete lod0 i'll post a pic

The standard Raider weaponry is medium pulse cannons for anti-capital ship/any non-fighter really, which I know aren't powerful but most Raider ships/installations have to rely on old, second hand technology.

For anti-fighter weapons, the Raiders have light (plasma/pulse) cannons similar to those on the Hyperion and the Omega.

I think the number of weapons that you are suggesting is about right, especially given the under-armament seen in the show.

heres what ive come up with
edit-some of the textures are rivens which were the windows and the top circular part and i think they fit in nicely

That's what I wanted originally, but since the ring rotates that's not possible due to an engine limitation. It rotates the turret geometry but not the fire points. So your turret ends up on the otherside of the station whilst still firing from it's original location.

I could stick some of those funky war galleon style gun ports in the ring if I drop the rotation aspect. Anyone got any opinions on this? To rotate or not to rotate, that's the question.

As much as seeing it rotate would be great, since this base originally came from the narns, they dont seem to have anything that rotates but i could be wrong

1) Neither the Narns or most of the League races have artificial gravity tech.
2) It's a station.

Conclusion: Because people are usually long time aboard a station, it needs an area where there is gravity. Much like Omega, Orion and Asimov has rotating parts.

I vote for rotation and place turrets elsewhere. Orion's turret placements are not perfect either.
Perhaps when source code modifications will allow us to have turrets on rotating section properly...
