Intro movie?

A few months ago, you guys said that you were working on a intro cutscene for TBP. I haven't heard anything since, so I'm wondering if it's still being worked on or if you ditched the idea.

Posted by Wildlife on 01-26-2002 07:34 PM:

nope, work is still being put into the intro,
with sound and music and some minor stuff.

trust me,
you wont be disapointed when its done

Actually how were you thinking to convert it to MVE?

Posted by IceFire on 01-26-2002 08:44 PM:

Well maybe, maybe not

It could be tied into our Launcher as a DivX or Bink or it could could be converted to MVE depending on time and resources at V.

tying it into the launcher would actually not be so bad.. in fact wouldn't it create the same effect as having an MVE intro..?
I think we should maybe do it that way, rather than having to wait for/bother volition.

Ice...remember DivX takes some potent processor power to decode, I'd reccomend a standard format so you don't have to get people installing codecs...

mpeg? doesnt everyone have that? and i think it would be better anyway as mve is 256 colour....doing it our way via the launcher will produce a better looking smaller Mb movie

Ashrak: Good thing your POV is irrelevant. Most people don't have DivX installed because most people don't watch DivX movies.
There are better, platform-independant, and less processor intensive formats out there anyway.

More specifically, it's exceptionally unneccessary to insult someone just because they don't use something you do. There are better ways to state opinions, you know?

Besides, I have DivX3.11a and 4.0

Yeps thats right. If this had come out three months before I would have said:"Divx codec? What use I would have to it?".
But now I need it in order to view anime and other movies.

Posted by CptWhite on 01-26-2002 11:34 PM:

other movies eh?

Whee!

Yes. I hate to be joy killer, but I meant a Jurasick Park 3 and other that kind stuff.
Well actually my computer time goes like this:
55% viewing anime (like Rurouni Kenshin and Ranma½, if any of these say anything to you people)
40% making missions with FRED2 or playing FS2 Op. Flashpoint.
5% being in net.

Nice eh?

Posted by Avenger on 01-27-2002 12:46 AM:

i can actually make the launcher be the player itself, the following formats would be ok

AVI, MPEG and BIK ( i think if i can find a codec)

BIK would be a good thing I think because they are relatively small (correct me if im wrong) and you can set the thing to play independantly of any codec (ie. as an EXE file) thus eliminating the whole CODEC installed or not issue.

Its something to investigate.

DivX was probably a bad example, but it was just an example to get the main idea across.

i dont think bik would be that small, not if we want the movie we're proposing and running at 30fps, but its probably the best choice still i say keep the whole thing under 30Mb still this is wholly possible with divx and it'd be good quality...

I am really glad that the sound for biks can be in MP3....that would be around 1 to 3 megs for the sound...

The original FS2 movie won't show if you have CD3 in the drive. Simple

You could techinically avoid all the trouble assosiated with installing third-party codecs and still use DivX (or similar) by packaging the next release in an installer.

Most of them can be set up so that you don't need to have all the files within the main installer, which means you can still implement seperate parts (hi-res gfx, etc.).
