PSP7 is pretty damn near Photoshop for most things.

Photoshop has a real edge for some of the fancier features perhaps, but I prefer PSP's flexibility.

3DS Max
Wordpad
Anibuilder
Aniview
Modelview
Vpview
Truespace

I think that cover most of what I use when I mod the holy Freespace 2.
