Putting music into the game...
Can someone help me with this? I've looked around, but been unable to find any help...
I would like to put music from say, the movie Crimson Tide, or some Babylon5 music into Freespace2.
I know I need a music.tbl....but I dont know how to use that. I barely know how to use the ships and weapons.tbls.
Any help would be great.....I got all the songs I need, if anyone can make it for me if its easier to do that than explain it.
Anyhew, thanks in advance...

Then wait for ICEFIRE or BLACKSHEEP to step by.
They seem to have experience with music.tbl and they know the format the music has to be converted to.

The sun is quite warm,
the universe is fairly large
and I have a loose mouth.
it aint easy, you need to convert it to wav, and set the music up for certain events like
hostiles arrives
mission complete
friendly depart.
and then there is these other numbers which i have no idea what they do.

Did you hear? England 5 - Germany 1!!!!!!
Did You See? England 1 - Argentinia 0!!!!!
The music.tbl part is easy. Searching through hours worth of music for a specific chime or a them of music is more difficult although familiarity with music and the CD's is a huge help.
Once you've broken it all down, the music.tbl part is easy.
Assign wave files to the events listed in the music.tbl and replace the standard FS2 files.
The music editing and capture is much harder than the table.

You know, this mod seriously needs a banging music selection, to go with the pace of play...
... atmosphere's lovely, but you almost certainly need something to flow in time to the adrenalive blood rush
First of all, capture music for each required song entry. These are:
-ambient
-battle 1 to 3
-arrival songs (in the best case 4)
If you got them from a CD or an MP3, normalize them and use Cool Edit or GoldWave to convert them to 22 Khz with 16 Bits...and save them into the ADPCM format. This compresses the wave and it is smaller.
Now comes the table thingy, it's a little bit complicated, I cannot tell you completely, what these numbers mean. Just look at a FS2 with a similar lengh and apply these numbers.
You might want to ask Silent Warrior about these numbers, he is very familiar with them.

Ouch....sounds complicated already.
Icefire or Blacksheep.....or anyone else for that matter. If I were to gather a list of songs such as the main themes from the movies Armageddon, Crimson Tide and Pearl Harbor, along with those 5 Into the Fire tracks from the site posted before this, could someone help me out by making a music.tbl with them?
I have school starting in....next week. And Im losing some best friends for the rest of my life. Granted, it isnt like you guys have alot of spare time either....but I would be ever so grateful.

If they were your best friends, then you wouldn't be loosing them. Not if you try.
I start school, or rather University, in a week too. Sorry, but I just don't have the time.

Icefire, do I have the program to convert mp3s into wave format?
If not, is it on that site you sent earlier on to me?
Im kinda tired of the opera music for FS2......
ALSO, I would like to know how, or at least get a link on explaining this......:
Putting say, Darth Vaders lines, or Sheridans, into a mission.
Thnks.

Music Copyright
I not quite sure, but when I was going to produce a showreel, I wanted to use some background music, and I heard that there were some copyright concerns.
First of all, you have to ask the permission of whoever made the music... and unfortunately, pay an unknown fee to the producers of that music :eek. The fee depends on how widespread the the music is going to be used - in other words, the more it is used, the more money you have to pay.
The only way to get around this is to compose youur own, or pay for a shareware music liscence :cool.
Apparently not so. The legal advice I got was that any piece of music can be used, so long as the entire thing is not copied (unknown if that meant CD or piece) and that the final product was not sold.
So many B5 movies use Babylon 5 music. People wouldn't have it any other way, and...nobody has gotten into legal trouble. The B5 Homeworld MOD uses B5 music and I bet others do to. None of us are selling our videos or our MODs...so I don't think there are problems.
If the music we captured is disputed, then we'll remove it. I think the ITF music is free to distribute.
